[ Izaya has similar feelings, though he finds they depend on the circumstances they're thrown into. if the situation is right, he has confidence of his ability to make use of a person like Shiki without inciting the type of punishment that would leave him a skin of his former self. he'll simply have to gauge his choices wisely, that's all.

[izaya's confidence in his own abilities would by no means come as a surprise, and to some extent shiki would suggest that this confidence is well founded-- izaya is a liability, and as such Awakusu-kai would have ceased their dealings with him long ago were it not for their faith in his capabilities. yet aside from the inevitability of one's death, nothing in this life is set in stone and izaya is still human, still fallible. he may claim that his interest in the world is maintained by the fact that things don't always go his way, but shiki has to wonder, privately, how much truth there is in that statement.
