Your mind is a dark place indeed. Yet, after discovering the time and method of my own demise, there is little that can faze me-- neither the departure of my beloved, nor the memories of that battle and its aftermath. And I refuse to wallow in self-pity, despite what you may think; I have long since learned that the difference between alone and together is merely perspective.

Finish your preparations. If this is the road we must travel, then we will do so with conviction.

Until it is smothered in flames of Twilight, of course.

You are familiar with this situation, then? Speak! I refuse to be left in the dark about this as though I were a mere commoner-- I certainly should have been informed before you, at the very least, if not immediately.

If you or anybirdie else has the answers, I demand to know! Where are we going, how will we be arriving, and why was I not contacted first?

[Do you remember this expression? Just the slightest hint of smile dancing about her lips, but any doubt as to her feelings is removed by the warmth in her eyes.]

It is not a road either of us would have chosen for ourselves. Yet, if I must walk it, I am glad to travel again in such fine company.

[He shouldn't be surprised to see him, and yet-- even now, Krasus stiffens involuntarily. He remembers the cursed dark pain, the lingering nightmares that tortured him for weeks after he fought the dread black.

But he survived.]

Think what you will. You and your Twilight brethren will fail.

[His deep voice is patient yet firm, and he is... okay with talking to birds.] Calm yourself and I will explain. You'll understand nothing if you lose yourself to panic.

[He extends his hand, silently exerting the kind of warm, calming influence only a guardian of life would have.]

[He remembers that look. After the hell he's gone through, he's glad to see a friend.] Are you sure? I have been known to receive more curses than compliments. [But he returns the smile, tired as he is.]

It is good to see you, Galadriel.

I am perfectly calm. [ He huffs, feathers ruffling slightly. ] A Le Bel does not panic. Such shameful behavior is the domain of peasants.

[ He eyes the hand disdainfully, but seems mollified by the gesture regardless. ~~Stupid red dragon powers.~~ Still, he glares up at Krasus, almost petulant as he waits for him to continue. ]

[Krasus lets the matter rest, his frail-looking hand returning to his side.]

I'm afraid your noble blood has no bearing on the situation. We are destined for the same place: a castle by the name of Cair Paradisa. Its residents hail from many different worlds themselves. We are all trapped until the castle's consciousness decides to let us go, and then you may return to your world without incident, as if the kidnapping never occurred.

[He doesn't mention what happens to people who've died already. He doesn't know.]

A trait common to a number of those I hold in high esteem, it seems. [One of Gandalf's names translates to "ill news," after all. To say nothing of "Storm Crow" and the like.]

And you as well, my friend.

[ Well, a castle doesn't sound so bad, except-- ]

Kidnapping?

[ Sakuya practically screeches. NO THAT IS NOT OK. ] Unacceptable! There are far more important things afoot than some insipid party at a castle I've never even heard of before!

What sort of fool would even go around kidnapping all of their guests? Do they expect everybirdie to enjoy being inconvenienced for their sake? I'll see to it that they rue the day they interfered with a Le Bel!

[ HE'LL JUST BE HERE FUMING. OKAY. COOL. ]

You may yet discover some unsavory secret and change your mind.

[Who can tell if he's joking? He's got a pokerface that puts Lady Gaga to shame.]

I might say the same to you.

[Oh, she can compete with that pokerface.]

We are not dealing with your classic kidnapper, little one. [It would be a demeaning sort of address from anyone else, but Krasus uses it with the faintest trace of reverence.] It presents itself as a strange force beyond the comprehension of those who encounter it-- more like an 'entity' than an unseen king.

But if you have the chance to confront our foe, you will not stand alone. I'm sure of that.

[He always liked her for that reason.]

We shall see, then, what secrets this new adventure will bring to light.

I must admit, I've rather missed your meddling. Life is considerably mundane without you.

I suppose we shall. [And now that hint of a smile blossoms into a full one.] It would take a great force indeed to pry your secrets from you, I think.

[He tilts his head a bit, regarding her with a faint, chagrined sort of smile.]

Fear not. Soon I will be meddling once again, and you'll no longer have such thoughts.

Or perhaps I will lose my secrets in my terribly old age. At some point, I may stop caring.

I should hope not! There are so very few I may count my elder; I would be terribly disappointed to lose even one to apathy. [She can't man the "meddling old person" fort by herself, man.]

It will take far more than old age and apathy to get rid of me. I daresay I would not go anywhere without promise of good tea and an interesting book.

[She laughs] I shall have to remember your price, should I ever find myself in need of your assistance.

My price is hardly steep when it comes to friends. I know that you, at least, have the decency not to call me a 'codger'.

The decency, yes, and also the wisdom. Is there not some saying about "bullying a dragon?" [Both literally and metaphorically. She kind of put two and two together when Alexstrasza announced his departure and people were attempting to comfort her about the loss of her mate.]

[His smile lessens somewhat.]

A curious choice of words.

Is it?

[Oh, don't be like that. The fact that she's still standing here and talking to him, despite her history with dragons, speaks volumes.]

The Lady Alexstrasza announced your departure herself. It was not difficult to discern the depths of her feelings for you.

[That is true, and now he feels a bit conflicted about keeping that secret from her. But considering how dragons were on her world...]

... Yes, my departure would have caused my queen such grief. [He pauses, head lowered slightly.] You are not mistaken in your assumption. I considered revealing that information-- after all, the Destroyer had no qualms about telling my allies-- but I was hesitant for a number of reasons.

Now, some time later, I doubt my decision to keep quiet. I have... learned much in my absence. Perhaps you may even call me humbled.

[She shakes her head.] I would have feared you in the beginning; it was wise to have kept it from me, at least at first.

I have told you of the dragons of my world- of what I have seen. It is only since coming to know you and your Lady that the dread I carried of your kind has lessened.

[That's a very high compliment. Krasus is a master of heavy silence, but this one is thoughtful-- not awkward.]

Then... I will remain your steadfast ally and friend, if you would have me.

[And Galadriel has always been a woman who appreciates the power of silence. Her answer is soft, quiet but meaningful.]

I would have you. That was never in question, my friend.

Madness! Lunacy! Are you telling me that the supernatural is at work here? Nonsense! I thought you had answers, not this-- occult garbage!

[ His feathers are so goddamned ruffled right now. He paces irritably, grinding his beak. ]

There is a perfectly logical explanation here, and I will get to the bottom of it if no one else will. Entities, bah! There isn't any such thing!

[His eyes lift, and bring with them a small curve of his lips.]

I am... so very fortunate.

[calmly]

You will see the truth soon enough.

As am I.

[She laughs a genuine laugh. Rhonin may have always hated all that meddling, but Vereesa will always believe there's a method to Krasus's madness.]

I will hold you to that. In fact, consider this my permission to meddle, as I've heard that you will require it.

[He really didn't mean to keep Rhonin away when Vereesa was pregnant with the twins, either. Shit happens.]

It will certainly make things... interesting. But I will continue to watch over you and the others as I am able, castle interference or not.

[He did Rhonin a favor. No one wants to see a cranky, pregnant Vereesa, no matter how nicely the book painted that picture.]

And know that it goes both ways, of course, as it always has.

[ROFL so true.]

I am glad for it.

Have you been well?

As well as can be. I still have my sisters at my side, though other allies have come and gone. Thank the Light the castle has seen fit to dismiss those we deemed a threat as well.
