Yeah, hi again. Been awhile.  Again.  Lookin' forward to doing this again in the next six months.  Congratulations on being freakishly consistent.  But hey, know what?  We're good.  I've maybe been itching to get out a little, too.

I mean, fuck, how long have we even been gone from this scene?  Who's even out there?  Aside from the normal psychos and alternate versions of people we know from other worlds, I mean, that shit's standard.  That's the cool thing about places like this, instead of that blank slate shit you like so much.  Just try to surprise me, losers.

And okay, maybe I am kinda wondering how all those crazy assholes we left behind are doing.

( A slight hestiation, since it had been Steph, not Jason, who'd told her his name. And not at a particularly sweet time, either! )

( She shakes her head, in mock sympathy. )

The assassin part is totally necessary.

[ He hears that little pause, but. He's not sure what to do about it. Yet. ]

Figures my luck would run that way. [ He sighs dramatically, then cocks his head. He's trying not to look too intent.]

How about you? You doing okay?

( There are the visible tells -- she's thinner than she had been, but her hair has a healthy sheen, and her eyes don't look sunk in her sockets. In recovery, and by now, one she's been in for months. If she hadn't been setting herself back, she'd -- be closer to back at the top of her game than she was now. Her smile's no less warm, and teh blink of her eyes was another moment's consideration as she hummed. )

Pretty good, all things considered. August wasn't a disaster! July was crazy, but June was way more hectic. We went to the Cretaceous! Man, those stars were wild! I recognized like, none of the constellations!

( She sounds pleased with this fact, following it with a mischevious twinkling of her eyes. )

I have a dinosaur morph now. About chicken sized, and chickens are bigger than you think! Feathered, nippy little jaws. They're fast! They let me have an ATV for the whole week we were on the beach and everything. How about you? How's the down time been?

[ He's wondering just how much she isn't saying. He's also wondering just how much she'd tell him if he maybe pushed for a bit more. But she's here and the smile looks real and that's gonna work for him right now. ]

I don't know, feathery nippy jaws doesn't exactly strike fear into my heart. Jealous of your ATV, though, my boss won't even let me drive his ride.

[ And see, the thing is he looks good. He looks fine, but there's all this shit still in the back of his mind, which is one of the fucking drawbacks of getting to know things about himself. ] I'm good. Down time's boring as shit, I almost miss getting sent to the past to have people shoot at me.

( Pushed, she'd talk. She navigates her own sense of appropriate in the meantime, a wavering, unsure pathway to roll.

She wishes he didn't have that knowledge sitting there, eating at him in the quiet moments. It doesn't do him any favors; knowing the bad things coming, that's no good either. Collette remembers how Steph had been dying in her arms, but crying for Jason -- and how Collette had been crying, too, and it'd all been a horrible mess of things.

But that's neither here nor there. Now is just light and sweet, as anything could be. )

Seriously? Yeah, I had that thing all to my lonesome. I think we had a few others on the beach? Didn't really matter much to me. I went exploring!

( Said much like some girls talk about having gone shopping or something else of more mundane, day to day value. )

Not so many missions have been as exciting as New Mexico. They sent people to Alaska! I heard that one was cold. No guns, but lots of scientists.

[ And there's a lot more warmth and affection in those four words than there is teasing. Fuck, he missed her and part of him hate that he's not there, so he could have maybe at least helped with some of the shit he knows she's had to have gone through.

( It's a good warmth. On her part, one of the last things she wants to do is give him any cause to worry. She does that easily enough as it is, just trying to stick with her gut instincts and style of living. )

Oh yeah, especially at first! Some got braver after a while of hearing me putter around, but thankfully, we didn't have anything big left near-by. There was this shield thing they used to keep the big guys out. I saw a few of them though! They were so cool!
