[Is scared, she's talking to the freaking Hulk!]

I think it's a little weird, people dressing up like heroes. What if a villain targeted them thinking they were actually a hero? It's not safe.

[Hulk keeps his voice at a slightly lower than average volume, this girl looks like she might pass out or something from fear.

S-sometimes th-they dress u-up like b-b-badg-guys....

[Thats just how she is around others.]

Why would they do that?

[Hulk will never understand muns or the mun world.]

Some people like b-bad g-g-guys m-more?

[Hulk seems to ponder this a moment, then leans over Tomoko, giving her a suspicious look.]

Do you like bad guys more?

...N-n-no....

[Big, Hulk is big, Tomoko is small and cowers a little.]

[Hey, Hulk. Could you use a distraction about now? If so, luck is on your side because here's one right now.]

Wow... How'd you get so big? And green? Are you strong enough to lift cars? Because that'd be really cool if you can!

[Slow... blink. Doesn't he know you? Oh well, this kid's cute, and Hulk doesn't mind showing off a little. He crouches down so he doesn't tower over the little one so much. He's tiny.]

Well, it's kinda a long story--but I can lift cars. Wanna see?

[Hulk glances around to make sure there's no parental figure that's going to start screaming and thinking he's going to smash their child. But as Hulk looks back at him, there's something strangely familiar about this kid...]

[But first things first.]

...are you out here all by yourself?

Yeah, sure!

[All smiles here about getting to see this big guy lift up something as big as a car...until that gets put on hold. The kid shrugs a little, taking a moment to glance off to one side as though to be sure that, yes, he is by himself.]

Well, there was this one guy who found me in part of a broken down building or something, but I haven't seen him since this weird mun lady got her hands on me.

[Oh no. Nope. Nuh-uh. No sad abandoned children on Hulk's watch. Hulk winks at him before drawing back and walking between two cars, grasping them by the front of their frames.]

You ready?

[He calls it out enthusiastically, smiling at the kid.]

Here we go...

[Hulk slowly raises both cars into the air, one in each hand, until they are both as far over his head as he can hold them without slamming them into each other.]

Ta-da!~

[It probably sounds a little strange with Hulk's gravelly voice. Hulk just hopes he can distract the kid from his previous question and get him to smile again-- Hulk ought to know not to ask those sorts of things by now.]

[SHOCK AND AMAZEMENT HERE. Two cars at once? WOW. His look of astonishment quickly gives way to a big grin of approval, the kid throwing both fists in the air in excitement.]

Dude, that's awesome! You must be the strongest person ever!

Yep.

[~~HULK IS THE STRONGEST ONE THERE IS!!~~ Hulk beams, pleased, and carefully lowers the cars back to the ground. No more sad kids, Hulk can't take it. Children are his weakness. Don't tell anyone.]

What about you, short stuff? Got any special talents?

[Unfortunately, not the best question to ask. Not that Hulk could know that, of course.]

I dunno... Maybe? I can't remember if I do or not.

[Hulk means well, but is blissfully unaware of the dangerous waters he's treading.]

Well, if you don't know what it is yet that's okay too. Sometimes it takes time to figure out what your strengths are.

[He considers that for a second or two. Even if he could remember everything, maybe the same would still be true. Maybe he's not even old enough yet to have a special talent.]

[Yet the fact that he can't be sure one way or another is now bothering him.]

I guess. I just wish I could remember if I did know before.

And if I did have a special talent, if I can't remember what it was, how will I figure out that I have it again?

[Hulk steps back up to the kid and crouches on one knee, resting one hand on the ground and looking into the kid's eyes.]

It's okay, if you don't know, or can't remember. It's even okay if you find something new that wasn't your talent from before. I used to think that my talent was only good for hurting and destroying, but... then I changed.

[Quite literally.]

And it took me a long time to figure out what I was supposed to do with my new strength, because a lot of people were afraid. I was afraid, too. It wasn't easy, but eventually I found out that I could use my strength to do good. To save people. And even though it took me a long time, it all worked out. You don't need to worry about it, you've got a lot of time ahead of you to figure it out. There's no rush.

[It's comforting to have someone talk to him that way...because even though he's doing a decent job of keeping a lid on it for the moment, the little guy is terrified. The longer he's aware of how much he doesn't know or remember, the more there is to be afraid of.]

[He watches Hulk through large brown eyes, taking in everything he's being told. Before Hulk has even finished speaking, the kid is moving a little closer. While he still doesn't know what this guy's deal is or where he came from, he seems safe. And really, who is their right mind is going to mess with anyone that big?]

[Though that in mind, there is one thing the kid doesn't quite get...]

So you're a superhero. Like in comic books. I thought superheroes weren't supposed to be afraid of anything, though. What made you scared?

[As the boy steps closer the nagging at the back of Hulk's brain becomes more insistent. I know you. I know those eyes. Who are you? Hulk pushes it to the side though, because this kid obviously didn't recognize him. Hulk tips his head down a little as the boy approaches, being very careful not to spook him accidentally.]

Well, I may not be a hero, but I always do try to do the right thing.

I do know some heroes though, and do you wanna know a secret? Heroes get scared just like everybody else. What matters is that they do what they gotta do even though they're scared. Lot of times people may not act like they're scared, but that's normal. The important part is that they don't let bein' afraid stop 'em.

[Hulk hesitates, unsure of how to approach the question. He figures being honest is the best way.]

Well...

I guess, being strong is scary, sometimes. I didn't really... ask, for it. It just happened. I didn't know how to control it.

[Explaining this in words easy for a young kid to understand was harder than Hulk thought it was going to be.]

Sometimes people are afraid of you too, when you have a lot of power, because they're afraid've what you might do with it. A lot of times when people're scared, they'll attack whatever they're scared of. I was scared, everybody else was scared, and... we hurt each other, even though we didn't mean to. But things are better now. Sometimes it just takes time to convince everybody you're there to do good.

[Hulk really hopes he didn't just wreck this kid's view of all heroes forever.]

[Some of what he's being told... It's a little hard to grasp. These are things he wouldn't have thought of on his own. Things that he's still a bit too young to get without having the issues brought up for him. After all, who wouldn't want to be the strongest guy in the world? Stopping the bad guys would be so easy, wouldn't it? But it almost sounds like having powers makes things even more difficult.]

[He's quiet a good few seconds after Hulk finishes speaking, trying to process all that. It'll probably be a little while before he truly can get it all. However, there are a couple of things he's able to take away from it immediately.]

You sound like a hero to me, 'cause helping people is what heroes are supposed to do. Like you said, you could just destroy stuff all the time, right? You could have totally been the baddest super villain ever. Like robbing banks and stuff because you're so strong, you can probably take whatever you want...but you don't.

[He smiles in an attempting to be reassuring.]

And I'm not scared of you. You're pretty big and maybe you didn't ask to be like that, but you're really nice.

[Hulk chuckles softly at this precocious little kid comforting Hulk rather than the other way around. Children were so open and understanding. This kid had a beautifully simple way of looking at good and bad. And he was smart, and not at all afraid to call Hulk out on his "not a hero" spiel and back it up with his logic. Unfortunately an ingrained belief and history of self-hate can't be child-logic-ed away so easily. But maybe Hulk can believe it, just a little bit, right now for this kid.]

Well, when you put it that way, I suppose I am a little heroic at times.

[Hulk has to fight off the urge to scoop the kid up and hold him to his chest. Instead, he offers out a hand for the kid to climb up on if he wants.]

I'm glad you're not scared. The only people I wanna scare are the bad guys.

But you wanna know somethin' else? I think you would make a good hero.

Probably more than that. I bet you have all sorts of stories about laying the smackdown on bad guys!

[And oh, hello. That's a hand being offered, there. He blinks at it, a bit unsure at first, then grins. Sure is an invitation if ever he saw one! Hope you're ready to be a big green jungle gym of sorts, Hulk, because the kid's not only going to get into your hand... He's going to go climbing right up your arm. Destination? Your shoulder.]

Yeah? Maybe after I figure out my special talent, right? But then I'd need a really great hero name! Something to match whatever cool power I have!

[A pause as he pulls himself up onto Hulk's shoulder, suddenly looking thoughtful.]

You know what, though? You never told me your name.

[Hulk holds still, bemused, as the little monkey climbs up his arm and onto his shoulder... Hulk was intending to place him there in the first place but it seems you beat him to it. Hulk cups a hand beside him just in case he falls.]

I got a few stories. Me and my team beat a living planet that was trying to eat the Earth, once. That was pretty cool.

[Hulk chuckles some more at his enthusiasm, turning his head so that he could see him out of the corner of his eye.]

I'm sure you'll have many special talents, and I think I know one of them already. And it's even more important than being strong. You just did it, too, and probably didn't even realize it.

My name's Hulk. And you?

A whole planet that was alive?

[He's immediately got about fifty questions regarding how THAT went down, though what follows does a good job of distracting him. Leaning forward a little so Hulk can see him easier, he tilts his head in question.]

Really? How's it more important than being strong? What'd I do?

[Right, and he forgot to give his name, too!]

Oh yeah, and my name's Rex.

Yup.

[Hulk grins and adjusts his hand when Rex leans forward.]

You believed me, you gave me a chance. Not many people're willing to do that. Anybody can be strong, but it takes a special kind of person to help other people feel like they can be good, too. Especially if no one ever told them that before. Lettin' other people know that they can do good when they don't believe it is just as important as doin' good yourself. The world needs those kind of people. There ain't enough of 'em. But you're special.

[Hulk jerks at the name, eyes widening in realization. It was so obvious now that he thought about it, but it's not like he was expecting to find his friend de-aged for whatever reason. His grin softens a bit and he turns his head away a little, remembering the confident young man who stood before him not to long ago. He hadn't really changed much, huh? Hulk hums, and turns his head a little to look the kid in the eye.]

You're a good kid, Rex.
