For a hundred and twenty thousand years, apparently. [ A tight smile. ] There are consequences to accidentally committing vampire genocide, who knew?

Anyway, Teleios at least -- it's more like a weird hippie commune than a lock-and-bars type deal. In a way, I don't even miss Mystic Falls all that much. It's safer here. Less... Hectic. And the people are nice. That's always a plus.

...I think I missed some stuff. Which Original did you kill?

It's hard to think of a prison as being safe. But I guess it beats being dead.

Uh -- Finn, I think his name was. It kinda just came down to chance, that I was the one to actually stake him.

But yeah. You missed... Well, 'a lot' would still be an understatement, I think.

I didn't know him. But I know the Originals were causing a lot of problems the last time I was around.

Probably. I mean it is Mystic Falls we're talking about.

It's only Klaus, Rebekah, and Elijah left now. Not that those three don't cause enough problems on their own. But they also just moved to New Orleans so hopefully things will quiet down.

How's Jeremy?

[sportive]

[ He doesn't answer immediately, a look of distress coming on. But after a moment, he admits: ]

He's dead. Katherine killed him to get ahold of the cure. Things have gone majorly south since then.

[neverhurthim]

[Anna literally just stares at him for a moment. Katherine had killed Jeremy. Katherine. God, she should have killed that bitch years ago when she'd had the chance.]

He's dead?

[Her voice breaks.]

Yeah. You know the Gilbert ring, right? It stopped working when he became one of the five. They're like these really beefed up hunters but are supernatural themselves, so...

[neverhurthim]

I know what the Five are. I didn't realize Jeremy was --

[Her voice trails off and she turns away as tears begin to form. It was one thing, her dying. But Jeremy? That is a thought that overwhelms her and makes her feel physically ill.]

[sportive]

[ His expression softens. They were never friends, he barely knew her while she was still alive. Most of their prior conversations were only in passing when she was hanging around at the Grill. But she obviously still cares about Jeremy like the rest of them and that's enough for him to feel an acute pang of sympathy. ]

After we -- after Elena had to kill one of them. It just sort of happened.

[She swipes the tears off her face even though more follow. She knew Jeremy and Matt were good friends. Even though he hadn't seen her when she'd lingered around Jeremy as a ghost, she'd seen him. She knew he'd been a good friend to Jeremy. She doesn't have to know anything else about him to know that.]

The Mystic Falls curse. Everyone dies.

Yeah, it's crazy. For such a podunk little town we sure seem to attract more than our fair share of shit.

[ Honestly, he barely scraped through graduation alive; if it hadn't been for Rebekah saving him, he'd have blown to smithereens. And he's pretty sure the life-giving powers of the Gilbert ring only work if you still have an actual body to give any life to. ]

[Anna's completely unaware of all that happened after being reunited with her mom, but she's sure there's a lot more to it than she even knows about.]

So much for small towns being safer places to live than big cities.

[ And so much for a prison being a more free place to live than your own home. It's kind of sad that everyone he knows from Mystic Falls prefers it to there, missing certain people aside. ]
