That's hardly what I'm upset about. If I had lost my life, but protected my friends, I wouldn't be upset. The fact that I failed... that they're gone too, that's why I'm upset.

He's not saying anything though, just shrugging before grinding his heels into it. ]

[Really, Kenjirou should be the last person to complain about getting blood on him, metaphorical or otherwise. He's still going to do so. Or was about to, anyways.]

[ He gives the coat one last grind of the boot before kicking if off into the dust, swinging one leg over the other as he poses himself comfortably in his chair. You can go pick up your coat now! He probably won't attack you now that it's all dirtied up! ]

[You know what? Normally, Kenjirou would play this off as a joke and say he didn't even want that coat. Complain a little about how students act nowadays for good measure.]

He's worth nothing except for the snake buried into his body. The coat is a little ways off from where he's sitting, but he's not going to bother trying to pick it up or kick at it again when the more interesting thing is standing in front of him. ]

S...stay away... ( singular, thin strands of hair begin to slowly fall out and onto the ground. )

[ He tastes the word on his tongue and licks his lips and breaks into a mad little giggle. ] away-away-awayaway--

[ He doesn't move as he watches hair hair fall in strands, more and more, until the snakes are formed. Gently, he calls out, ]

Mary.

( it might have been the mad giggle or maybe it was the fact she was referred to as a prize, but it pushed her over the edge. she shoves her face into her hands and leans forward, visibly trembling. )

Stop it... Shut up... Please...

( she just barely manages to hear her name being called out. )

( she stops trembling. a very strange lookin pair of...what were those, wings? come out of her back. the back of her hair is much shorter.
all in all, she doesn't look like herself. )

( mary straightens herself out, but she says nothing. )

[ He's been waiting for this. Waiting, waiting for her to replace the useless Snake who went ahead and fell in love. Love is useless. It stops you from moving forward, from using your power to the best of your abilities. ]

If you did that from the start, I probably didn't have to murder your friends.

[ He's musing to himself now, debating on what to do with Mary now that she's gotten her full form. Should he try to chain her like he did to Azami? To bound her to the Heat Haze? ]

Oh, that does it. a new-found anger overrides what's left of her rationale.

mary screams. she runs toward him, roughly jerks him downwards via hair, and knees him in the gut. )

[ That's more like it.

Kuroha reels back, collapsing forward from the impact of the knee and nursing his hurt stomach from the hit, trying to regain his breath-- and he's laughing, with what little breath he has left between choked gasps he's still laughing. At her? at this situation? ]

( whatever he's laughing about, it's angering mary. so let's try to find out why he's laughing. )

What are you laughing at?! ( her soft voice is not suited for this type of speech. her yells sound like shrieks.

not that shrieking isn't fitting. )

You try and try and try and again and again but what you're trying to do - [ cough. ] you can't do it.

[ Wheeze, pause, before he starts laughing again-- stopping abruptly in his sentence to breathe. ] Do you really think you can stop me?

( her anger just boils and boils and boils-- and suddenly, it stops. her face, her body- she visibly relaxes, calms. and she looks down on him, her eyes are filled with pity and anger and hatred all at once. her eyes are filled with red, a pure bright red, and she takes a step closer, speaks. )
