I expected it to be beneficial, when you told me I was to share the company of allies from the past and future. As things are now, however, it is a great deal more trouble than I anticipated... [Dragon transformations, Desmond freaking out, Connor playing damage control, that whole thing.] Still, they are not fully to blame. And as Desmond's ancestor, it is my duty to watch over him, so I will continue to.

There is one thing I must implore of you, mundane. Finish your canon review with the true history. Do not touch anything further that happened between myself and Commander Washington. If I were to be updated to those events, and was ever to gain knowledge of the Apple in Altaïr's possession...

[After all that happened, he can't trust himself.]

The Apple holds many temptations. It may be better that you not be exposed to it at all.

It shames me to admit it, but I fear you are right. It was the Sky Journeys that drew me to the Apple. But even that cannot only be to blame...

The fact I was tempted by it at all proves I had best avoid it.

Temptation lures all men, Connor. The one who tells you he has never been tempted is one you should not trust. That is why it is important to know ourselves, and to take steps to remain strong in the face of it—and to avoid it, when necessary.

Has it ever tempted you, while in your possession?

Of course.

[Said matter-of-factly. He may become a legend, but in his own time, Altaïr is still but a man.]

[Connor doesn't know whether to be reassured or disappointed by that answer. He had always hoped his own will and the will of others in the Brotherhood would be stronger than to succumb to such things. But, as with many things, what he wants and what is don't quite line up.]

And have you ever given in to it?

I have used its power to preserve my life—and sought to understand that power to enhance knowledge.

[If you ask his wife, the true danger is the way he can get wrapped up in studying the thing for so long, many hours passing in the blink of an eye. But he knows there are greater risks.]

But I have never used it in anger, or to place myself above others. I do not intend to.

I am glad to know it is in capable hands.

Capable enough for now, perhaps. But these hands will not be around forever. I can only hope that yours grow more so than you believe them to be.
