[ Reiner kneels down, locking his pinky with Bertholdt's tiny hand. ]

[He squeezes his pinky, making the promise, and almost looks like he might hug Reiner around the neck-- before drawing back a little like the idea caused him pain. Less physical contact meant less closeness meant less of a chance he'd care about others. He's never even touched an adult before, been held or loved. Any instinct too had been met by hostility, so... it frightens him a little, even if it is Reiner.]

Here. [ Reiner scoops Bertl up, holding him up to his chest for a hug. ] Better?

[And then he's in Reiner's big strong arms and he's warm and safe and happy... He hugs him around the neck tightly, smiling again.]
