I couldn't control how my sister raised my niece, but I can damn well try to influence her now that she's capable of thinking on her own.

So long as she learns to think for herself instead of relying completely on the family's rules, there's a chance.

A decade and a half of the traditional Sheridan way is very hard to undo. Give it time. She's resistant now, but soon enough she'll open up to new ways of thinking.
