...I never really thought about that kinda happiness before. Just... being satisfied, and... normal. It's almost boring.
[ Maybe she's being insensitive, though -- ] That's the kind of happiness you wanted too, wasn't it? [ ... ] Sorry you didn't make it to see it with us.
"It seems you haven't been paying attention... your precious nest no longer exists. Ganta and Shiro destroyed it, along with every last trace of your insanity. The world won't even remember you."
[he smiles, grimly. for a calm soul like nagi, it's actually refreshing to meet someone he doesn't have to feel guilty about hating with every inch of his being.]
Doesn't every bird leave the nest eventually? [ He knows full well he died, and Deadman Wonderland along with him. But as far as he cares... ]
Lose? I got what I wanted. The Mother Goose System is destroyed, and all those surviving Deadmen are free to spread irrationality throughout the world. I couldn't have asked for anything more. ✩
[ He then stops abruptly, clapping his hands again. ] Actually, come to think of it... I could have asked for more. That annoying Undertaker who loves you so much is still alive. Ahah, I hope they moved him to a different hospital before the island sunk! ✩
[ Karako claps him on the shoulder, eyes shining. It's actually the tears welling up in her eyes making her face hot, and they quickly spill because of her smile, but she's happy, happier than she can remember feeling in a long time. She dabs at them with her knuckles, slowly shaking her head. ]
[ Slowly, one of her hands goes to the back of his head to hold him close. She shuts her eyes, holding her breath, and for a moment all she can do is be grateful she gets to have this. The tears keep falling, but she nods, ruffling their hair together. ]
I'm not gonna lie, it wasn't easy, especially at first. I.... [ She nods again, and her smile lights back up. The words are on the tip of her tongue, like they had always been when she was with him, and that's where they stay. ]
[part of him knows he should be angry at her- she had a hand in orchestrating his misery, after all. but try as he might, he can't muster any hatred for shiro: she was as much a victim as he was, if not moreso.]
"You're lucky to have each other. I'm glad neither of you had to die."

[ She may not look it, but she's happy. ]

"...No. Minatsuki." [she's not the hummingbird anymore, no more than he's the owl.]

the rage fades. he shakes his head, smiling bitterly.] "You... still don't get it, do you? Even after all that, you still don't understand."

"But if you still think that chaos controls the surviving Deadmen, rather than the other way around... then you're a fool. And you always will be."

"Yeah. It's good to see you, too."
"Tell me. Is it good to be free?" [it's an obvious answer- but he needs to hear her say it. he needs to know she's happy.]

I wouldn't have minded dying... But I guess this ending is just as well.
