Once they found out that 'village' didn't exist inside Wall Maria, we would've been as good as dead.

You'd probably need more knowledge for the Military Police and such, so maybe as they get closer to graduation, the classes would get more advanced since there'd be less trainees... even then, past basic literacy would probably be totally optional. Once they can read their textbooks, what else would a soldier need? ]
