Or well, she'd told them Joel would be happy to be around here since 'here' wasn't a planet full of infected. She'd been half right.]

[ Really though, he's relieved to see her safe and sound. ]

[She's happy to see him, too. None of this stuff, not the promise of a world not racked by the infected, meant anything if he wasn't there.]

Pft, I can take care of myself. [But she's grinning excitedly, almost bounncing.] But Joel, don't you get it?! We did it! We can ditch that place!

[ God, girl. Why do you have to be adorable and your excitement contagious? Joel sighs; he'll lay off on the stern talking and not ruin her 'fun'. ]

Joel, you would be safe. They would both be safe and they wouldn't have to go hungry and she could see all the things she's only seen ruins of! [ His arms fold over his chest as he rolls his eyes in her direction to give her an amused look. ]

[She stops, bringing her hands together to nervously mess with her own fingers.] Can't do everything on my own. You're still have to teach me to swim, remember? [I don't want to be on my own.]

'Course I remember. [ He goes over to her and puts a hand to her shoulder, squeezing gently, reassuringly. ] And I will.

[She smiles up at him. Good, because she couldn't handle him leaving her. She can handle killing dozens of men, she can handle living in a crapsack world, she can even handle all that stuff with David, but she didn't thinks he could handle losing Joel at this point.] You'd better because I'm not riding on another fucking pallet.

I had you. I wasn't ever gonna let you fall in.

Yeah, if I didn't trust you, I wouldn'tve gotten on. Swimming just seemed a lot cooler, you know? Waiting there while you found a pallet sort of sucked.
