[Tessa still isn't certain of Gabriel despite the heroism she'd seen before and his obvious affection for Cecily. She simply hasn't spent enough time with him to know how he might react to her presence.]
My mundane intended it to happen when she was going to send me to one of those games. She would have sent me at a different time in our stories than Jem and Will. Jem would have thought me dead and Will would... he would not have learned the truth about some things. I would have thought all our troubles would have been behind us.
They have sent me to a horrible place where the only familiar face is Magnus Bane and in our world and time my father had just locked himself in his room. So they have left me with the dangerous and unknown.
When is Magnus from? If he's from sometime farther in our time, then he might know what happened to your father. Will might have told him what happened when we asked for his help with Jem.
I'm not sure if they would know about what happened. You're family seems to... [Pausing, Tessa wonders how best to describe how the Lightwoods seem to try to hide certain aspects of their history.]
...reluctant to discuss certain events from the past. At least the elder members seem to be. The younger ones can be more open about such things.
[Tessa almost tells him that she'll be related to him eventually, through marriage at least, then checks herself, remembering that his history is slightly different than her own and decides for another answer.]
My point in our story is farther along than yours, Gabriel. My mundane keeps also keeps Alexander here as well so I've learned about our families.

What interruption is that, Mr. Lightwood?

[This one hasn't even met Cecily yet.]
