I mean, not that I wouldn't, even if I hadn't. That's just kinda how it works out here. But, you know.

I do know what you mean. But I'm glad you are here all the same.
[ ...
...OKAY SENTIMENTAL MOMENT OVER. ]
So, do you do that kind of thing all the time? Visiting other worlds and getting into danger wherever you go? It seems exhausting!

I would like to echo the sentiments as expressed above by Doctor McCoy.

I like how you're all acting surprised.

[ That's the second time in his life Jim's emotionally compromised him, and probably on a grander scale. After all, this idiot clearly has no idea what would have happened if their hands had really been touching (the terror and loneliness that Pike suffered is still fresh in Spock's mind) and therefore has little appreciation for the fact he wanted that. To have his empathy and wish to comfort his friend known, before he was torn away and either of them could explore that twist for what it was.
Jim is infuriating enough to make the demure line of Spock's lips harden, his eyes lingering on him with pointed intent. After all, he isn't going to admit these things in public, especially while being scorned. ]
It is, however, agreeable to find you have moved on at such an astoundingly rapid rate.
[ Not that Spock has any idea if he has. He'd probably feel better if Jim had, but. All he gets is a dry tone. ]

his expression is fairly neutral, for the most part, with his eyebrows up]

Then will you elaborate, or am I to spend the rest of my days shielding it from Vulcan eyes and fists?
Not that your opening statement gives a great deal of hope.

It's okay to admit sometimes that you're in over your head. And this time, you were in so far in you couldn't see sunshine.
