Muse isn't too sure about this 'genderbending' thing

Is this some kind of weird, mundane magic that I haven't heard of?  I'm supposed to be a guy.  That's what's in the books.  Do you really think what happened is going to change because I'm female instead of male?

You don't even know if Magnus will like me when I'm like this.  He said he's bi, but those stories make it sound like he likes men more.

And, technically, if I'm a girl now, shouldn't I be interested in women?

[Gabriel gets a very confused look on his face at all of that.]

[Alec gives her ancestor a questioning look, unsure of which part of her argument with her mundane caused his confusion. Instead of asking what was wrong, she asks the question she's been wondering about since her mun had finished the Infernal Devices.]

Do I look like Cecily?

[He blinks.]

It doesn't really make sense to me either. My mundane and her friend started playing 'what if' and 'what if Alec was female' was one of the questions. Now...

[She shrugs slightly, unsure of what Gabriel will think of the change.]

I'm a girl and we get to see if I'll make different choices than Alexander did.

I don't know if you'd make different choices but you may have different opportunities.

Female or male, I think our opportunities are about the same except I didn't - [Pausing, she realizes that Gabriel probably doesn't know what 'coming out of the closet' means.] I didn't publicly announce that I prefer the same gender so I don't have to deal with that prejudice.

[He only knows what he's been told from another Alec and a couple of Magnuses around here.]

But if you are a lady now why wouldn't you ... still like men?

[He's awkward as he says that. He's still not entirely used to the idea.]

Wouldn't that make things simpler?

It'd depend on if Alexander likes males or he likes the same sex. If he likes men, then I should. If he likes the same gender, then I should like women. I think it's my mundane that's making it difficult since Alec is supposed to be part of a slash pairing.

It probably will make things simpler, but that doesn't mean I'll have different opportunities. I'm still going to be too young to have an opinion that matters to the elder Shadowhunters.

Eighteen, but I don't think they really see me as an adult.

They should. I'm eighteen so they have to include me.

[He speaks as he's very entitled to it.]

Dating a warlock hasn't helped my reputation. [Not that Alec cares about earning most Shadowhunters' approval. Magnus is more important than even her family's approval.] And the things we've done to help Jace and Clary...

They have to include me but they still ignore me.

Why is it that every time I talk to one of you, that warlock is always brought up? What's so special about him?

[The answer is simple and complicated and Alec knows she lacks Jace's way with words to be able to explain it so she goes with simplicty instead.]

What makes Cecily so special?

.... That is not the same. She's not a downworlder and she- we-- we're normal.

No, it's not the same since he's better than most of the nephilim he met over the years. He helped them despite knowing that he was hated for what he was.

You shouldn't blame the child for the sins of his father and that's what you're doing. It's not Magnus' fault that his father was a demon.

I'm glad I'm a deviant if that means I can see that there's more to someone than heredity. I'm sure Alexander feels the same way.

[That sins of the father remark made him flinch. He changes the subject quickly.]

[A guilty look crosses her features when she notices Gabriel flinch. She hadn't meant to imply anything about his father, instead thinking of how Magnus' parents had been blamed him for a demon's acts.]

No, w'ere not too much different. Except being around Magnus makes me more willing to talk than Alexander. My mun thinks that it'll help me work things out with Magnus or I'll get so frustrated with him I'll tie him to the bed and not let him go until we work out our differences.
