You can't possibly be serious! You want me to go on-board a spaceship just so I can fly it? The thing's slower than molasses. Not to mention it has no wife. How am I supposed to go anywhere without Zoe?

Sure Inara is there and alone but she's more than capable than taking care of herself. Plus she's probably got a handful of good people looking after her by now, girl works fast.

I think we should just leave the piloting to the robot in charge and find a way to get Inara back. Besides, that ship is no Serenity. [Pause.] What? Of course I could fly it but did you get the part where it's wife-less?

I'm more concerned with your survival during the experiments, to be honest. As difficult as it would be to not have Zoe with you, the experiments are a more literal threat on your survival.

What's a little experimentation compared to the life we live? Every job has its fair share of threats on my survival. [Though to be fair, he is already dead. He gives her a smile.] How are you holding up there, Inara?

I don't remember very many jobs suddenly changing our ages or giving us hallucinations.

We have a couple of engineers running about that have the natural skill, but they're both from Earth-that-was. Distant Earth-that-was. I'm racking my brain for every bit of space travel physics that I know to help them catch up.

I don't want Kaylee here, but I certainly wouldn't turn down her help.

You also avoided most of the crazy parts and ended up saving us.

Between the bunch you can figure stuff out as you go along. Aren't there manuals or anything like that on the ship?

She'd certainly give those engineers a show.

That seems to have been my role with the gang.

There are manuals, but they don't help much when people don't understand the technology behind them. And when they want to modify this station to do things it's not built to do. I'm more than half afraid they're going to tear this place apart.

As terrible as it is, I would be incredibly relieved to see her.

Let me guess, they want to make it go faster than it was built to. At least the shaking and possible explosion would be familiar to you. [Teasing.]

Maybe you'll get to see her there one day. It might be nice if we could get the whole crew there.

Yes, quite a bit faster, and at least one mad genius is discussing energy shielding. They've even decided that they want to attempt to get it through the atmo. I would be much more confident if the shaking and explosions included your common sense.

No. The day he thanks you straight-forward like that is the day Serenity never flies again.

If they're going to do that then they need to make sure it'll hold together at that speed and when going through atmo. Well if my mun decides to send me there you can rest assure that I'll be there flying no matter what they manage to do to it.

It'd be even better if we had Serenity there flying alongside of the station.

I think the 'Verse will implode before that happens.

I don't know what they're going to manage, or even if we'll make it to that point. There's an armed force coming to take the station back, or destroy it, and it's highly unlikely we'll make it anywhere before that happens.

If we had Serenity it would be much simpler to get people to safety, but I highly doubt that would ever happen.

Well even if the Captain will never say it, I will. Thank you for saving us.

Don't suppose the station's got weapons, 'cuz that would make fighting them a lot easier. Do you have shuttles of any kind?

Of course not, things would never go that smoothly.

No weapons, no shuttles. We do have a couple of . . . individuals that can handle deep space without equipment. One of the proposed plans is to open the airlock, through Jack out, and then close it. The insane part is that it might work.

Of course not. We have muns to ensure that nothing ever goes well.

Sounds like a wacky fun plan. And those are the kind that helped us survive in the past. You'll survive it, Inara.

This place is full of what you would call whacky fun. Complete absurdity mixed with terror and a surprising number of parties.

I could definitely do without mine. I'll continue to hope that yours chooses to leave you in peace.

The crew would probably just add to the whacky aspect. I can only imagine what Jayne would do.

None of our crew need to be subjected to this place. As much as I would enjoy seeing familiar faces, it's not worth it.

We'd feel right at home there. Jiā shénrén. Jayne would run amok there. With no currency he'd hoard everything of value that he could.

Wish it were up to us because I'm sure all of us would choose not to be there.

Could I ask what kind of ship you would be piloting? You sound like you have experience, but you talk a bit odd compared to astronauts I know.

It would actually be a spacestation. A pretty big one at that. I do have lots of experience and I'm not an astronaut, I'm a pilot on a Firefly class ship.

A space station, you say? That must be fascinating work. Are you on the International Space Station as an independent contractor, or is this something that SHIELD is cooking up?

That's what my mun says but piloting a station would be boring. They're so big that they move really slow. Never heard of anything called Shield but I guess you could say I was an independent contractor until I married the Captain's right-hand woman.

I suppose that would depend on whatever time you're from but I'm gonna go with 'no'. Can't say I'm well-known but space travel's something everyone knows about when I'm from.

So it would seem. Well, now. It's interesting. I have had a few adventures in time itself, but I've never once heard of any future with the...interesting cursing you have.

It's Mandarin. In our time most everyone speaks English and Mandarin. Came from the Alliance that formed back when we had to leave the Earth-that-Was.
