I dunno, that still seems pretty backwards to me. Hell, if I was sane I'd be like "well, I could get drunk, but then I might die...or I could stay sober and be more ready for something that tried to eat my face, but I'd be wicked depressed". That would create some kind mental conflict, which would add to the hard-on those freaks behind this shit are getting.
