Oh I better not be sent to any realm other than my empire, Kounan. War is constantly threatening our lands and Suzaku can only do so much without an emperor to watch his nation and a priestess to channel his powers.

This matter has to be handled properly according to my will and not some whim.

Plenty of rivaling nations, huh? I'm sorry to hear about that. Kei doesn't have that kind of trouble, but the civil unrest, poverty and corrupted bureaucracy my predecessors left me to handle is still tough.

I hope your mun will understand where your priorities lie and your people won't suffer.

Yes. They all want to have what my nation has. Thankfully, internal problems aren't a big issue for my kingdom, however, it still exists. I think it's because of the threat of war that my people actually deviate from such problems.

She's a stubborn woman who's heart I can read. Not to mention delusional.

Yeah, I can understand that. People tend to gather together to face a common threat even if they don't like each other very much. Sometimes is for the best to put those feelings aside.

Yes. I am thankful for that innate need for self preservation. Although the enemies armies are strong, we get by some how. Each one does their job, specially Suzaku's warriors.

Sennin are immortals. Immortality is like a bureaucratic procedure; once someone joins a Court of a kingdom or become a member of the Imperial army, their names are written in the Registry of Immortals. That's a way to ensure the stability of a kingdom for generations.

In a way, we are the same. But we are not immortal. Though the god Suzaku has given us powers, knowledge and skill that no ordinary man has to aid in the preservation of the realm.

Got it. I don't think the gods get to choose the sennin of the Court, but they [supposedly, she rolls with it for now] get to choose the ruler and the sennin at their service as hermits or clergy.

How was it like for you? You were raised knowing that, but have you ever wished it to be different?

That is true. It's hard to choose people whom are right for the task, and who's willing to do everything for the good of my people.

It is my job to care for my people, this is the duty I was born with. I will still do it again if I was given another life. All I want to change was the loneliness.

Seems you've already firm on your calling. I wasn't sure for a long time. Maybe I'm still a little insecure, but it's mostly because I can't understand why Heavens thought out millions of people, I'll do a good job as emperor.

What about your ministers or your ladies in waiting? Maybe they can't understand how to be the ruler, but they can be supportive.

Indeed.

I felt the same way in the beginning. But I had a firm resolve. There's no one else to do the job, and I can't let my people down simply because of my own selfish whims. Trust me, I understand how you feel. I was born into the position, and it feels as if you have no choice. Always asking yourself, "Why me?"

They are as supportive as I can ever hope for. But it is different from having someone care for you, and make all the loneliness disappear.

Huh. You're lucky in a way, you've got education to know how to do this from the start. Sometimes my inadequacy is because I didn't have a slightest idea of how to rule or even of the country itself. But I'm always trying to learn, I've accepted the pledge, there's no turning back and ignorance is never an excuse. Or maybe I'm also lucky too, because I was able to experience starvation, tyranny, and a life away from that palace atop the sky.

[She knows better than no one how to be persecuted and nearly die alone and forgotten in a mountain road. She'll try to make sure her people do not suffer that.]

But aren't they your friends too? I guess I understand a little. My best friend and former traveling companion is studying on another kingdom. He was my first friend too, so I miss him dearly. But at least I have a new group of friends that I can trust would do a good job. He's doing his best in the University, I should do my best in my kingdom until we meet again.
