[But...you DIED. Connor won't forget that. When everything you loved burned into flames, it changes a man. Well, he was a BOY. But in a way, this was nostalgic.]

[Suddenly, he wondered how much his mother knew of the man he really was now. Or if she would be disappointed or not.]

I am aware. [Except no. She's not. Not entirely. But she can fathom an educated guess or two.]

Things aren't the same as they were then. Nothing I do or say will change that. In the same manner that I cannot change your past.

[She looks disappointed. Slightly.]

And then I must make amends when the opportunity presents itself.

[Were you really, Ziio? Connor wondered.]

I am not asking you to change my past. I merely want to preserve the present and the future. It is what I strive for now.

[Now you confuse him. What amends?]

[It's really very surreal for her to have this conversation with him. It serves as a stark reminder that her son knows her very little. He knows of her endeavours. He knows of her history.

He must know mostly stories from mouths that were not her own.]

You are my son. I wouldn't deny your hand.

[Regardless of how odd it must be for him to look upon her and see a woman barely his elder.]

[Then again...they never really did get to know each other. Connor was just a small boy. As much as he loved her. As much as he missed her...so much, he never really got to have such a strong bond. Just miss the chance to have it.

Being called her "son" made him feel a few years younger though.

Maybe getting back what was lost won't be so bad.

He gently smiled.]

Thank you, Mother...I would do whatever you would have me do.

[What does one say to something like that? Is she particularly emotive? No. Not necessarily. Many of her looks to him as a child, were of that of a slightly wary mother. Slightly.

To think of what she saw in his gaze now...

He looks as though he needs one more than she does. Once will not be so horrible.

So she opens her arms for him.]

[That was fine. That was perfectly fine. Connor might've felt a bit amused by that comment.

For a second, it almost felt natural. They were really quite a alike. I wonder how much they knew that.]

[She says nothing immediately. Instead, she eyes him, almost stares him down, except her gaze isn't quite so prying. She gives him respect, consideration, and motherly admiration with her look alone.

[There are many questions. And she doesn't ask them. Not yet. Perhaps out of pride. Perhaps because she's suspected this already. With Ziio, a direct understanding is not necessarily so obvious.]
