Imperium. Most worlds call it Britain, I believe. And yourself?

[She's been to the US once or twice, but never for sightseeing.]

I'm certain it's missed you in those five years.

Been longer than that, sweetheart. Five, and then the other three, and then the OTHER three. More than ten, really.

Ten years away? [Fortescue smiles.] I hope you usually have good company, to compensate.

Stuck on a ship with more or less the same people for five years gets real old real fast.

But most of them are good, yeah.

I'm afraid I wouldn't know. But I suppose you'd get to know them very well.

Yeah, too well, in fact.

But that's enough about me. Tell me about uh, what'd you say it was? Imperium?

Well... [She thinks.] We're in the middle of a war. We can travel between universes. And sometimes our heads are particularly bloated about both of those things.

[yougotnumbtongue]

It's the human condition, darlin'. Not much you can do about it.

[blackmagus]

True enough, I'm afraid. We didn't start it. At least that's something. There's war in space, too, I take it.

[yougotnumbtongue]

War everywhere. Happens when there's places left unclaimed or unexplored. It's all ridiculous, really.

Agreed. I'd much rather curl up with a nice glass of wine than start a war, any day.

[yougotnumbtongue]

Maybe whiskey for me, but agreed. Nice thing about Starfleet though, it's a peace-keeping organization. We don't go looking to start wars. Mostly lookin' to stop them.

[blackmagus]

That's a noble endeavor. [She laughs quietly at that first part.] Some day you'll have to tell me more, then. Over a glass of whiskey.
