Her crew is made of fine men -- and beautiful women! If you except that Spock fellow, I suppose. Not that he's a woman, but he's hardly a fine man.

He's a fine science officer. The best our bridge crew has had. [That clinched it though, this man did know about Pike's ship.]

General Trelane of Gothos. Retired. It's an absolute pleasure to meet you.

Another captain? How very exciting! Please, you simply must tell me all about your missions of conquest.

I'm afraid you will be disappointed. The Enterprise is on a peaceful diplomatic mission. We are not out to start or finish wars. [There's the Prime Directive to think of, of course. Something Kirk doesn't always think of.]

[Come on, really, is it a rule that Starfleet captains have to insist they have no fun?]

Oh, of course that's how you approach it, but what actually happens? You surely haven't been entirely without the glory of battle.

[Absolutely no fun. There's regulations about that sort of thing.]

Battle isn't glorious or something to be glorified. [Pike has seen enough of battle. He doesn't want to see anymore.]

Honestly, it's as if some kind of false modesty is required of officers in your fleet. I swear I shan't tell a single soul of your storied history.

We've tried to grow behind wars, tried to get along with other races and species across the galaxy. The Klingons have been the most difficult, they seem to enjoy war... [pointed look at Trelane as if to say not unlike you]

Oh, really, it's in your very nature to fight. Cover it with as many pretty words as you like, it's still true. [He would be flattered to be compared to such warlike beings if he weren't already so enamored of mankind, dear Captain.]

That doesn't make it any less wrong. Why are you so eager to hear of killing and death? Surely there are more important things in life.

Ah, but music isn't nearly as interesting without warfare. Why, the most thrilling are the ballads composed to commemorate gallant acts of combat! And attempts to win the hand of a fair maiden!

That isn't the only music... Like I said, glorifying battle is not putting any truth into it. It's only stories built on fiction.

((OoC: I used to watch TOS after school, so I've seen every episode a few times XD Haven't sat down and rewatched most of 'em in a while, though. It's cool how available all of the series are now.))
