This is a bad idea... You do realize that. You try to get into my mind as I get into theirs, and it becomes a cycle. A cycle neither of us will escape from. And there will be nowhere for us to go.

But we both already know what it's like entering the minds of... others. So maybe it's your design, just as it is mine.

They are, for a moment. You said yourself I became him, and sometimes pieces linger.

But you're not him. There's a difference.

[probably means "you're not a killer", but she could just as easily be saying "you're not my father". But he can't help his fatherly affection and protective instincts toward her]

No, I'm not him. I would like to be your friend, though, if you'll allow it.

[She didn't mean either. She meant what she said. Will is not Garrett Jacob Hobbs. Abigail couldn't say he wasn't a killer. It turns out, she is. He could be, too. And while Abigail doesn't view Will as her father, she senses that he's nurturing, he's caring. She won't break his delusion, if there is one.]

I could use a friend. [She's tired of new people. She wants someone that isn't trying to just get answers out of her. Was she involved? What was it like being the daughter of a serial killer?]

So could I. [friendship is magic or something, idk]

Then friends it is. [She blinks before offering a small smile. She doesn't have much anyway. Might as well keep the people who care about her close. She could use them.]

[he smiles too, genuine and encouraging. He cares about her in his awkward not!dad way and is glad she's willing to include him in her life]

Then as a friend, I hope that you'll call me if you need anything.

I hope you stop avoiding me. [Which isn't likely.]

I think I can do that. [or try to do that. Trying counts, right?]

[She offers a half smile, not entirely sure if she believes him. Especially after he knows.]

Good. It'll be-- good.

[ah but the very fact that he knows is why he wants to be close to her and protect her. He smiles and touches her arm in what he hopes is a comforting gesture]

[It is comforting, though a little shocking. He is more familiar with her than most people. So it's another half smile and a nod. She's still troubled, baring more than she says and more than she even wants to tell herself, but the mind has a way of making things come out.]

[he's not sure if he should hug her. Will she accept it, and is it an appropriate gesture? Squeezing her shoulder feels like a happy medium, so that's what he'll do]

Anytime.

[It's appreciated more than he knows. Her head head dips, and she holds back emotions that are trying to rip out of her from the inside. She swallows, closes her eyes for a moment. He doesn't even know what she's dealing with, but she has to ask:]

Do you think I'm a monster? [Because if he thinks himself her father, she's his actual blood and the things she's done...]

[he keeps his hands on her shoulders. If she needs a hug, all she really needs to do is lean forward and he'll embrace her. But he'll let her decide if she wants that; he certainly won't push for it. As for her question, he gives a firm shake of his head]

No, you're not a monster. I think you've been through horrible things, things most people couldn't even dream of going through. What you've done were only the actions of a young woman who loved her father, who was too frightened to know what else to do. That doesn't make you a monster.

[He doesn't know though. But she doesn't let herself think about that. She becomes rigid in his arms again, though she does stay close.

There are other things she wants to ask, but she-- doesn't. She just takes this moment. Because someone cares about her.]

[he can understand wanting to be guarded, but there is an undeniable need to comfort her, to show her that she's not completely alone in the world. So Will very cautiously places a hand on her back. It's hard to know what to say so for now he'll just be here]

[She holds the moment before curling into his chest. He's open, and she needs the moment. Abigail lets out a slow breath that she doesn't realize she's holding until now.]
