Oh. That sounds like the darkest sort of magic ever. Mother couldn't do such things, even before she was beautiful.

It is, indeed. My stepmother's magic was dark enough to poison the land.

I - I'll never understand it, doing things to innocent people like that. Why can't people just be good?

I know not. My stepmother suffered many hardships... I don't excuse her actions, but I do know she believed she needed to do those things to protect herself.

I think that happens to very many people. At least, that is how it seems to me.

My brother - he tells me that I was stolen from my family because our parents stole from M - the witch.
