I was getting to that, I assure you. I'm Thatch, Fourth Division Commander of the Whitebeard Pirates. May I have the honor of your name?

Oh, hello. I'm Silena.

Gods, that's really nice of you, Thatch, but I'm in no state to date anyone right now.

[thatched]

Silena. It's a pleasure. And no date, no strings, I assure you. Just a pleasant walk and a good time. Even as friends. Honestly, I just want to make a lovely lady smile.

[agapetos]

[ She chuckles quietly, rubbing under her eyes with the heels of her palms, hoping that what little makeup she does have on is still in tact. ] You're succeeding so far, Pirate Commander Guy. [ And she finally smiles, just a bit. ]

Just Thatch is fine. Though I have to admit my crew is my pride, still...

It'll be all right, sweet lady. Sometimes days are difficult to get through but if you can just endure, the sun will come out soon enough. Trust me on this.

[agapetos]

Okay. Thatch.

[ Her smile remains for a moment longer before a sadness fills her eyes again. ] You're saying all these nice things, and I appreciate it, but I'm afraid that I've done so much damage that I don't think anyone can forgive me at this point.

[thatched]

Well I can't really speak for what you did, Miss Silena, not knowing a thing but in my experience anything can be forgiven. Pops-- our captain, forgives just about everyone. He takes the worst dregs the sea has to offer and somehow his faith turns them into honorable men.

[he smiles faintly]

Take it from someone who killed a boy at thirteen over a scrap of moldy bread.

[agapetos]

Is that what it takes? Faith in someone will help restore their honor?

Well you have to live up to that faith. You can't just take it for granted but-- yeah it helped me. Pops saved my life and gave me a reason to want to be a man instead of a desperate sneakthief.

[agapetos]

Yeah - I. I've taken a lot for granted. I tried to fix it, but I guess second chances don't come by as often as we'd like.

That's good, though, that it made you better. I hope I can find the same sorta reprieve.

[waterproofed]

Silena... Y-you... you're real, right?

[agapetos]

I should be. Not a spirit or anything. [ She smiles sadly, offering a hapless shrug in greeting. ] Hi, Percy.

[waterproofed]

Hi. [oh my this is awkward] It's been a long time.

[agapetos]

Maybe for you. I kinda - I was pulled out of where I was supposed to be. [ It's hard for her to look him in the eye and she sort of wishes the ground would just swallow her up. ]

[waterproofed]

[he wonders what he looks like to her. When they last saw each other, he was on the brink of turning sixteen. Physically he's almost a full year older now, maybe two months shy of his seventeenth birthday. But he's a lot more mature than that mentally. Like he's almost twenty]

[agapetos]

[ Of course she's noticed. He looks stronger, more mature. It suits him. Silena purses her lips thoughtfully, then smiling at the thought of her departed boyfriend. ]

I - I know. I want to see Charlie, if I've died a hero. [ She lets out an annoyed sigh. ] I just want my mun person to let me go so I can get to it.

[waterproofed]

[oh good it's going to be one of those conversations]

You are a hero, Silena. I've seen it for myself. The war was... years ago, for me.

[agapetos]

Th-thanks. I hope you're right. [ Sorry about that, Jackson. This nexus thing tends to bring out all the ghosts from one's past. Silena herself looks pretty sturdy and uninjured, but still on the brink of tears, like he last saw her. ]

It looks like it's been a while since you last saw me. Where - what are you doing now?

[waterproofed]

[this is even more awkward since he did technically see her very recently. She was just a hallucination, and she was wearing the ruined armor she stole from Clarisse, but he saw her. So even though Percy knows this is the real Silena, it's still hard speaking to her]

Trying not to go crazy, more or less. Harder than it sounds.

[agapetos]

Sounds like it. [ She tries to chuckle but it comes out a bit forced. ]

In a place like this, I wouldn't be surprised. So many lost ... [ No. No. Silena, don't you cry again. ] And then just - coming back without warning.

It's... not something I get used to.

I think the departed can be of some help later on. I hope I can do that, anyway.

[waterproofed]

Silena... things are getting weird. I know you want to help, but I've already got one girl with me who left the Fields of Asphodel.

[agapetos]

Of - of course. No, I know, it's silly to ask. I don't deserve it. I'll find some other way to make amends.

[waterproofed]

That's not what I meant, Silena. We had to free Thanatos, and I don't think he's going to let anyone else escape. I don't even know why he's letting Hazel stick around.

[agapetos]

Oh, gods. The balance has been upset and nothing's been done to fix it? It must've been, um, grave circumstances. I don't think I've heard of that being done before.

[waterproofed]

Yeah. Like I said, things are a mess right now. We're going to fix it, though. Somehow.

[agapetos]

I believe it. Is everyone else mostly in one piece?

[waterproofed]

I haven't seen anyone from camp in over three years, Silena. I have no idea what's going on.

[agapetos]

[ And to think she had asked the question because she didn't want to hear about the casualties, belatedly realizing that such a question would lead to talking about the fallen. Oh, Silena, get it together. ]

I'm sorry! I - I didn't know. You're from a totally different plane of, like, existence than I am. You haven't even seen Annabeth?

[waterproofed]

No. Not in a long time. There's just me.

[agapetos]

But you're alive at least. I'm glad for that.

[waterproofed]

You really think she's going to send you somewhere? Or even listen to what you have to say?

I can hold out some hope, can't I? The least she can do is listen and consider, anyway.

That attitude is why she's never going to take you seriously, too.

[ A pause. ] You're the one who took my place?

No, but you could be a little less passive about it.

I see. [ Which really means, "You wouldn't have been my first choice." ]

I asked her nicely because I'm in no position to make any demands. You wouldn't understand.
