It is a habit they just can’t seem to kick is it not?

They really need to take care of their fragile minds...so easily broken by any form of responsibility.

Oh? [He urges him on with a thin-lipped smile, delighted to hear more.] Do go on.

She was the woman who made me...and the woman who broke me.

And not content with selliing me out she sent her favour son to kill me.

It's like something out of shakespeare isn't it?

[The poet and playwright's name does not mean very much to him. Oh, but he understands much about people playing favourites.]

...What ever did you do to wrong her, you naughty creature? [Isaac asks in a playful, lilting voice, slanting him a sly look.]

Oh I merely tried to protect her and my country.

[He's leaving out the part about stealing Chinese secrets and killing secret agents...He doesn't want to bore you with the technical details.]

[Sighing dramatically] And people wonder why I tell them faith and patriotism is such an old fashioned concept.

[Isaac's not quite buying the blamelessness - this springing from his tendency to assume no one is innocent -, but he cants his head and nods gently as if in a show of politesse as a listener. Inevitably reminded of the sting of Lord Dracula's betrayal, he says with a tone of wry amusement:]

That would be the case yes...ah well.

I can't say I haven't learned from the experience...being your own boss certainly has it's perks.

Boss? [The meaning of this word in this context is not what he's familiar with, and he wonders if this is some sort of saying.] How do you mean?

One of these days, she's simply going to worry herself to death. And then where would we be, or darling James?

Oh don't scare me like that darling...a world without them would be a terrible terrible thing.

Well, we never anticipated living in a world without them, now, have we? In one way or another, it all seems to work out. Just not always in our favour.

But that is the way the cookie crumbles as they say. It wouldn't be as sporting if we won all the time now would it?
