Oh, God, if I don't find something to do soon I'm going to set the fucking flat on fire.
[ psst? Jim? I'm right here.
he turns angrily. ]
Didn't you promise I'd have something iiinteresting to do? I need something, some fucking stimulation or I'm going mmmental. [ . . . ] You've also promised me Sebastian but I don't see him. When do I get to see him? DO I get see him? Do I ever get to leave? Do I ever get to play? You promised, you promised.
[ he throws a phone against the wall. ]
I need a caaa~aaase.

And just what sort of case would you be so very interested in, Jim?

Anything anything anything that isn't BORING. I just need a case. It's been weeks and weeks and it's starting to get in my head.
Not only that, but I've not been given what I was promised, and you do know how I get.

[ there's some bad blood there. there's a dark look in his eyes for a second. ]
No, no. I need something real to focus on.

[ oh well clearly he is, but it's rhetorical anyway. the whole part about Sebastian is glazed over, tucked away in a neat little corner and set on fire because goodness gracious does he hate that man. what a waste of space, time, and energy.
but James, oh no, James is worth his time. his space, his energy, his everything. Holmes feels his mouth stretching at the edges. ]
I can fix that for you.

of course he's going to reply. he has to reply (or this psychopath might just toddle off to bomb a building, he reasons).
a long pronounced sigh and a bit of an eyeroll. ]
Please. I'm perfectly capable of finding something to do on my own, Sherly, but thank you so much for the thought.
[ the sarcasm is so thick, it needs a day broiling to be edible. ]

Oh but James, I hate seeing your mind go to waste. What if I said I could cure your boredom and find your friend? [ he throws him a smile, and he's attempting to be friendly, he really is. it's just, well, his eyes don't light up as he does it, and there's something twisted in the intention of the gesture. ] Would you be interested then?

[ he sounds irritable, and that annoys him; he wants to tamp this rage down, this hatred and fear and discomfort, but it keeps bubbling up. he stands suddenly and paces a moment, looking back at him only once he's capable of forcing a smile and standing still. ]
I'm not really intereted in playing today. Run along, now.

[ the smile's met with a smile of his own, for a moment, but then it recedes into his usual impassive glance, lids drooping and mouth smoothing out. it's interesting that you think you have this much control of your situation, James. a falsity, but an interesting delusion nonetheless. ]
Oh but I don't think you have a choice.
no subject
[ he turns on Sherlock, eyes flaring. ]
You don't have a choice, James. You don't know what I've planned, James. You can't stop me this time, James. Don't you hear yourself?
[ apparently it's been a bad day, because he's furious. ]
Ever single case- every single case! -I have beaten you. You have to lower me to your level to beat me. Don't you ever get tired of losing? Hmm?
