You let the possibility of failure overcome the potential payoff for success. Too many do this, though. It's a silly thing - if you try and do not succeed it's the same result as having not tried in the first place, you save yourself nothing.
But there is only ever one path for me to take. That is destiny, much as Albus cares not to believe in such things.
