You've already contracted the attitude. No turning back now. From here on out it's either going to be full blown superhypocrisy, disillusioned alcoholism, or death.
You think that humans don't or shouldn't kill. You think everyone should think that way by default. You aspire to become a superhero. I bet you "draw a line" somewhere.
You're well on your way to one or more of the three.
God. This is what I hate about talking to superheroes. If you doesn't agree with their bullshit moral fantasies, then you're angry. You're warped, you're crazy, something happened to you. They can't see any other perspective than their own. They can't even understand that there is one.
The things that happen to us are what shapes us. Something happened to you to make you think the way you do, the same way that something happened to me to make me think the way I do.
Don't get me wrong - criminals, monsters, the psycho-loonies of Gotham City - I don't always agree that they should get to live. Some of them need to be put down. But I also know that killing someone would change me in a way that maybe I don't want to be changed. I don't want to take a casual attitude towards it, the way someone took it towards me when they cut me open from groin to sternum.
Yeah, it's called "life," which consists of more than one or even a few things "happening." We all make decisions. Shitloads of people see their loved ones killed right in front of them, do they all become vigilantes? No. Most people, getting sliced open would result in something different. You can't say it's that which led you to put on a ridiculous fucking mask and a cape it was you.
No, I wore the mask long before I got sliced open, and it was for very different reasons. And I'm not saying that's what made me want to become a hero. But it did force me to take a harder look at who I was and who I wanted to be, and what I really wanted out of wearing a mask.
It was a metaphorical mask and cape. I have no idea who you are. Well, no, I have an idea, but I don't really give a shit.
Fuck the navel-gazing. It's the world you need to look at. Superheroes all have the same stories. Even people like me all have the same stories. The question is: what to do about the shithole we call earth? And it has so fucking little to do with your moral hang-ups or my lack of them.
Wow, did I not shave today? Do I look like Jesus? All I know is that you people have got to stop riding my ass on this. We all know some people need to die, like you mentioned. It's only Batman who can't stand it because he's fucked in the head. Also, none of you will do it unless it's an emergency or you're super upset, so it's gonna be me or people like me. Fine. And yeah, we'll probably argue about who "qualifies," and that's about the time superheroes start feeling sad and guilty.
So the problem isn't on our end, it's you guys. Get your shit together and try sitting on Batman's chest until what needed to be done gets done.
You may not look like Jesus, but your vindictiveness kind of makes you holier-than-thou in a way that's not all too dissimilar to mine, even if our viewpoints are opposing each other's.
And you know what? Thanks, but no thanks. I'm not a fan of Batman anyway. He's always seemed kind of like a self-righteous jerk.

Besides, me? I'm still working on the hero part. Can't think about the super yet, no matter how much I'd like to.

And for the record? I got rid of the cape.

What does it have to do with then?

Not all that different from you, incidentally.
Clearly, a superhero team-up isn't in our future.
