When considered metaphorically, depression is quite a lot like being eaten alive by a monster:

You are trapped in a small, putrid-smelling, and airless space from which the most obvious exit is undignified and will probably kill you. It seems as though your entire environment is resistant to your breaking out, and when you finally do accomplish it you will be covered in unmentionable gore.

There is no solution in either case except a bath. Tea and a good book would be nice, too.

All that bad crap going on, no good supply of decent food, the freaky suits, and no guarantee of anyone else from home showing up - even if there's anything reassuring, it'd get drowned out.

That's true. There are nice moments to take where you can get them, but sometimes I wonder at the fact that no one just mysteriously disappears during shore leaves.

Mun thinks there's probably some kinda thing in Stacy that brings everyone back when it's time to leave, whether they want to come back or not, but he's not for certain.
