[He goes silent, linking his fingers together, looking at nothing for a long moment. After a while, he takes a breath.]

So now you have my backstory. You can apply me to a game. And maybe through one of them, I can get back on track. It's all I have left, now.

[Allow him a little grim satisfaction; he really wishes he'd been there to see that bastard Whatley go down.]

I won't lie, it ain't been a cakewalk. You can't trust these mundane types as far as you can throw 'em. [Yeah, he mad. Long story short, evil mirror dimensions make people do things they'd really really rather not.] But it still beats sittin' around this place doin' nothin'.

Good. Certain magic was never meant to be done.

[Jaeris thinks it over, but ultimately shrugs his shoulders.] A lot of things happened when I was black bagged in the middle of the night. Before the resistance broke me out... I got to see just how threshold is a sliding scale of sanity. I'll take whatever my mundane sends at me. I always survive. And I always keep going. It's all I know how to do, anymore.

[Well, that's an attitude he can respect. And frankly, he doesn't really care enough about Jaeris to worry over him; if he says he can handle it, that's his business.]

Can I ask ya something? I get that Linksano is from another dimension, but you look an awful lot like Linkara. Are you his dad or soemthin'?

[Oh. Whatever it is you said, Jaeris, Harvey's face just went terrifyingly blank for a second. It's gone pretty quick, but...]

No. I ain't his dad.

Really? Margaret said you call him your kid. I just assumed - look, I have rules. I don't get people's families involved. So however you're related, you just need to know I'm sorry.

She talked to you?

[That's interesting - he didn't think she talked to anyone but the kid - but it's not enough to distract him from that next statement. Harvey crosses his arms, arching an eyebrow. He doesn't get families involved?]

Really. Whaddaya call that little stunt you pulled in October?

Briefly. She's not a big talker.

[He takes off his hat and looks down, sighing.] Mistakes brought on by desperation. Look, I'll admit I've been driven into a dark place. But Linkara seems convinced I can change. And since he took down Vyce, I'm willing to put my money on him for a bit. I said it before, I'll say it again: I'm sorry. I did what I had to do.

[Harvey retains his stance, looking the other man up and down. He doesn't blame Jaeris for what he himself did, what he thought, that month. That was on him, and he's dealt with it. Truth be told, maybe it all turned out for the best, but that doesn't mean he has to be happy about spendin' that long locked in his apartment. With 90s Kid.

After a few moments, he sighs.]

You were just tryin' to get back and help your family. I get that. And...I guess I can forgive ya.

But if you ever mess with my family again, you ain't gonna get another chance from me.

[The forgiveness was slightly grudging. The threat was not. He's always thought Linkara a little over-merciful: just look what happened with Vyce.]

If I ever mess with your family again, I don't expect another chance. From any of you.

Good.

...speakin' of. You wouldn't happen to know what happened to a certain hologram we lost track of, would ya?

[Jaeris looks at him blankly. It's genuine.] Hologram?

[Harvey looks at him critically for a second, before accepting it as honest.]

Never mind. Just a idea I had. [The only idea any of them had. If he doesn't have it...that is concerning.]

Okay, then. [Jaeris shrugs, still a bit lost.] Magic's more my forte than science.

Yeah, Blue did have a few things to say about your ship.

[And your, apparently, stupid AI with terrible insulting capabilities]

Ain't really my thing either, though.

The ship's a miracle. You have no idea how hard stealing something like that is under a fascist regime. I actually have a bed there. After so long in prison, it was like... I don't know, like waking up from a nightmare.

Running it takes more or less all my skill, though. I wasn't exactly trained for this.

[Damn. It is getting really hard not to completely sympathize with this guy.]

Y'know, I bet we can help you out with that a little, if you're willin'. God knows the kid made his stolen spaceship work out fine, and I kinda thought the thing was gonna explode on us for a while there.

I'm not sure my ship's AI would be onboard with that idea after Pollo insulted him. He's not very good at being social... then again, after everyone died he only had me for company and vice versa, so maybe that's to be expected. [Firstly he didn't know how to reprogram AI, secondly it was his only familiar face - er, voice, after they shifted universes.]

Whatever. Just call us if it looks like somethin's malfunctioning. Can't have you blowin' up now.

[Now, if you'd done it a couple months ago, that would've actually been quite handy. Oh well.]

I'll try and talk with my AI. I'm sure he'll get over it. And besides, we've lived with malfunctions before. We'll be fine.
