in the history of bad ideas this is right up there
Wow, back again. You know this is how revolving door jokes get started.
Ok that was a more bitter than you deserved, I'm sure you have good intentions. You honestly seem like a good person. In some ways you and I are a lot alike, but you haven't been through the things I have, frankly I hope you never have to.
I'm not going to dwell or slip into lecture mode, not like you are one of the Titans anyway; my lectures never held much weight outside of that group. I just want you to think carefully about this before either of us gets hurt or hurt someone else.

[Yes, you are going to tell her and she doesn't even need a lasso of truth to get it out of you, does she?]

[Sounds kinky but he'll skip the bondage party today.]

I love him like a brother but... I know he isn't the easiest guy in the world to read emotionally.
You know, unlike red headed archers who wear their hearts on their sleeves...when they have sleeves.
[Come on, give the lady the old Speedy smile, she's looking for one in there.]
no subject
The archer knew what she was after however and managed a somewhat forced smile.] I'm fine, really. Just gotta cool my head a bit. [It was the red hair, it had to be. Arsenal's temper was quick to bubble over and quick to cool thankfully. He didn't particularly enjoy being a walking stereotype but by this age he was pretty well stuck with his habits, good and bad ones.]
no subject
[What was that about stubborn, thick skulled... She sighed and shook her head.] Right, should I leave you alone or....?
no subject
[Why yes, he was indeed trying to change the subject by deliberately ruffling her feathers.]
no subject
[She slid into the hug and for a woman with amazonian strength she was gentle. She moved just to the side and looped her arm under his, one of those automatic movements born of years of familiarity.]
Don't think you're getting out of things this easy, Harper.
no subject
[Chuckling, he slid into the easy familiarity of hugging one of his oldest friends. It didn't seem to matter what was going on in their personal lives or how far the four winds seemed to blow them, they always seemed to come back together eventually.]
Oh, yeah? What about a bribe to win me back into your good graces, huh?
no subject
Just what do you have to bargain with? And be forewarned I know you have a terrible poker face.
no subject
How about a photo of your favorite niece, huh? We missed you at the party but I just had a feeling I'd run into you eventually. [Warmth touched Arsenal's gaze as he handed over the photo.]
no subject
[Sorry Harper, she was all distraction now fingertips grazed over the photo. She smiled, blinked hard and looked down, stepping away from Roy.]
I can't believe how big she's getting.
[She's happy, she really is, happy for him and for Lian. But there is always a bittersweet connection with children. She'd lost her own and Lian represented a part of Roy's life she had not been present in, and still never quite forgave herself for.]
Thanks, I know just how I want to frame this in the scrap book.
no subject
She is, I swear, every take my eyes off her for a minute she seems to sprout another inch. [Roy made no move to stop Donna when she stepped away.]
So, am I forgiven oh terrifying warrior goddess?
no subject
[There it was, that well practiced Donna is always ok mask. It fell into place and no one would know just what she was really thinking or feeling. Her smile hid it all.]
I should come by sometime and take some shots of her, give you something good to put in frames. I miss her.
no subject
[He leaned over and kissed her cheek with a loud raspberry.]
Yes you should. Apparently she doesn't have enough 'female influence' in her life. The thought of her going through puberty has me breaking out in a flop sweat every time. [Because when that happened? Ugh. His darling little girl was going to be replaced with a hormone driven pod person for the next decade if his own limited experience with young girls was anything to go by.]
no subject
Well that's kind of a surprise, you were never known for a lack of female friends.
But sure I can stop by, make sure she knows Auntie Donna is around if and when she needs girl talk.
no subject
Okay, let me rephrase that. No proper female influence. I'm not about to leave Lian home alone with someone like Grace, alright? I shudder to think about what new curse words she'd pick up in under an hour with Grace corrupting her. [Which wasn't to say he didn't like Grace a lot. She was a fun woman and a hell of a sack mate but that didn't mean he didn't want her adding her influence to his child either.]
I'm sure she'll love that. You always were her favorite.
no subject
I get it, no need to go on. [She raised a palm to forestall any unwanted details, which was really any details at all.]
Well maybe one weekend I can take her and we can do some window shopping and take some pictures. She always used to like that anyway.
no subject
Are you sure? Because I can, I assure you. [Mischief twinkled in the archer's green eyes as he reached out to catch her fingers in a light grip just for the tactile contact.]
Better you than me. I don't know what's going on with her whole 'fashion sense' these days. Girls are complicated. [Now he was just baiting her.]
no subject
She's not complicated, just because all you understand of women could just about be squeezed into thimble. [Whoa, that was harsh, and immediately regretted.]
I don't mean that, I just mean sometimes... You aren't exactly the best at understanding woman in fashion or much else. Not to say you aren't a great dad, because I know for a fact you are and that girl loves you with everything she's got. [You kind of have that effect. Thank goodness she was able to hold her tongue in her life experience.]
no subject
We done? I can take the shreds of my masculinity and go if you'd prefer? [Okay, where had this gone from fun and flirtatious to this? Faced with a squabble, he opted for self-deprecating humor instead.]
no subject
You wouldn't know it was me if I didn't snap at you at least once right? Old Donna lectures are practically my trademark at this point.
no subject
It's my fault. Though I really wasn't talking about Grace in that respect. Just so we're clear on the matter? [He held up his hands in the universal sign of surrender.]
no subject
It's fine, don't worry about it.
[She needed a subject change, and she needed it now.]
So, how are things with Ollie?
