Hmm... the Scarab must have some kind of fail safe I missed during my attempts to get it running. Either that, or whatever made it somehow took control of it remotely. The later I could probably fix with a frequency jammer of some sort... the fail same would be a bit... trickier.

Aliens called the Reach made it. They couldn't reboot it at first. Until...well a martian wearing one reached inside it and was able to reboot it that way.

But... that might imply that there's some sort of internal interface capability. That would mean the scarab could be rearranging itself in response to any intrusion. I wonder if a well placed EMP could disable its defense mechanisms long enough to get it open.

The only hurdle there would be prying it open. If I had access to my workshop, I might be able to jury-rig a sonic scalpel with the right frequency...

Of course, that's all theoretical. I tried for years after I inherited it, but could never get it to work, or even figure out how it worked. It's not strictly mechanical... I don't think. To be honest, Dr. Fate would probably know the most about it. I think he was part of the reason we could use it without being Reach agents to begin with...
