Something tells me that you haven't thought this through. Now, I'm no stranger to that - you've seen my brother. Yet I can't help but think that the dust and the cobwebs bode ill for my future with you.

[A laugh.]

I hear we already have that to look forward to. It's worse than that. Imagine being confined to one room with close to nothing to do - and there is no way to leave it.

By yourself?! No one can do that to you! Let me get my arrows. We'll save you from this fate, Fili!

We can't fight our way free of this, Kili. But, amazingly enough, you seem to be having an effect on my scribe.

I'm a frightening sight, brother. A mere writer would indeed take one look at me and tremble.

We are more fearsome still together. Take up your weapons!

More frightening than dragons and anything else combined.

[He'll go along with it and draws his swords.]

[Kili means well. And he does actually think he's frightening. He's spent his entire life training after all.]

Perhaps not dragons. We can't breathe fire.

But we're warriors, through and through.

[Besides, younger brothers can be their own type of frightening. All joking aside, though, Kili is right about their teamwork, and right to have confidence in his own abilities - although, if scribes were genuinely a serious, all-powerful threat, Fili would prefer to see Kili avoid provoking them too much.]

And they don't have to know the truth.

No doubt about that!

[He puts on his best 'game face' even if it's more adorable and less fierce. He does try his best, even if he is more of a brat and less of a warrior when not in the heat of the moment.]

How could they knew the truth? If we speak very quietly, no one will be the wiser.

[Here's a pat on the shoulder, Kili. After one of Fili's swords is sheathed again to free one hand.]

That's the idea.

Now to formulate a plan!

If it's good enough, Thorin will praise us too. Sneaking up should work, you think?

[He nods.]

There must be ways to keep scribes distracted, or so I've heard. That should make it easy enough.

Oh! I have just the thing! Writers tend to think about this often.

[So he grabs his brother's braids and leans in to give him the crushing kiss. ]

Quick! While they're stunned!

[That may have had the side-effect of a stunned Fili, but it was effective - apparently the mental image of Fili's braids being yanked was a hilarious one. That was quick thinking, he has to give Kili that.]

... Let's leave that part out, if we tell Thorin about this.

But I think it worked.

[Now he's just being cheeky.]

Good. Let's sneak up and slay your writer!

[He shakes his head with a laugh.]

The part that you may want to work on, before you try it on someone in earnest one day.

[In a couple hundred years, maybe. As for sneaking up--]

Mister Baggins could have been helpful here...

[He's still the 'who needs girls' phase, Fili. Besides, no one wants a dwarf without a beard!]

Is there a Mister Baggins hiding away with you? There's Thorin sometimes with me. I'd uh...we don't need to call him.

[The couple hundred years might help! Possibly.]

No, that we don't. [After all, Thorin has more important things to worry about.] We'll manage.

[Kili is already pulling an arrow. Of course there's just one problem...]

Where is this monster at?

[Fili casts a glance around.]

I thought I heard laughter, coming from somewhere over there. [If it was something only he could hear, that might be a problem.]

Are...you sure it;s not from back there?

[Oh, the poor young dwarves. They have no idea.]

[He'll look in that direction now, listening.]

You're sure that's where you heard it, Kili?

[While he doesn't doubt his brother, he's considering the possibility that both directions are somehow right.]

Yes. Back there and...over...head?

THEY FLY!

[Glancing up now!]

That won't be a problem for you, as long as it does it again. We can lie in wait for it.

There's just no cover.

[He curses at his bad luck before that snickering from overhead happens again.]
