Everyone has a line, Mundane.

I don't strike up contracts with children for a reason. Adults are old enough to know better. It's not my fault that most of them simply don't.

Our opinions are going to differ on this point. I have never seen your world. I don't know how harsh it must be, because you are strong. Stronger than anyone your age should have to be.

Even if you were a boy, I would say that.

A very long time ago in my world, there was a war going on in my world, and the soldiers began to take children from the poorer villages to send to the front lines. Boys and girls older than you are, even.

The soldiers that came to my village had control of a powerful being that they used to keep the villagers at bay while they abducted their babies and put swords in their hands. Power they could have used to end the war without bloodshed. They didn't want that. They wanted the children.

They let girls fight in their wars?

But that's stupid. Wars cost money.

Not when they don't have to pay the soldiers they're sending to fight.

They have to pay for swords if they want to win.

Only if you plan on using them, and only if they are not provided by other means.

Despite the heavy length of this war, there was never an issue of weapons shortages. If you find that suspect then that should tell you the manner of people running it.

Then the villagers should have killed them. Or fought for the other side. Or killed the - the powerful being.

The villagers did try to fight back, but the Dark One, under the command of the soldiers, kept them at bay with powerful magic. The opposing side? Legions of man-eating trolls. Not to be reasoned with.

The war did end, in perhaps the only way that it could have.

One of the villagers, to save his child, freed the Dark One from the control of the soldiers, and in turn the Dark One, with his magic, ended the war and led the surviving children home. [That's leaving out some crucial information, but yes.]

Did he kill all the trolls?

Trolls may be born blind, but even they can recognize power.

But they're monsters.

Monsters come in all shapes and sizes, dearie, and not all of them are so dull-witted as to walk into their own doom.

I know that. I've killed monsters like that.

When last I was in that world, there were small cells of trolls remaining. Much fewer than there were once, and their numbers did not swell for centuries.

Good. Did the soldiers controlling the Dark One die?

Yes. They did.

I don't actively dislike them or go out of my way to directly harm them.

...but you're talking about making deals.

Some might think you're a pervert. [What does "for a reason" even mean? Is he worried about accusations?] Treat children like children. It isn't that difficult.
