It's a question I've wondered too. [When his Master or the more daring apprentices invade the Son's mind, it's the reason he gives for why he started serving the Emperor. Knowledge of that, and of so many other things...]

Hello, Father. [His right arm is held behind his back, so the missing hand isn't visible.]

Luke? [He blinks, feeling bleary-eyed and wary. The version of his son he knows is nothing more than a thirteen year old boy.]

[ He passes his flesh hand over his eyes.] This is insane.

[iamnothing]

[To himself] Yes... that was my name...

It is. Would it help if I left? [This Luke's about thirty, and kind of remote and controlled. He's... not exactly great at being on the Dark Side.]

It's not you. [Well, at the moment, you're certainly something.] There's a lot happening right now; it's getting-- [He holds his breath for a second.]

What happened to you?

[iamnothing]

[His lips smile faintly, but it doesn't touch his eyes.] Many things, Father. I'm more like you than you know. I serve the same Master... and I will leave his service in the same way.

[aaaand there's the half-empty sleeve.]

[ His eyes zero in on it, before looking back at Luke's face, stunned.]

What are you saying? [ Not Obi-Wan. Clearly not Obi-Wan.]

[iamnothing]

He told me that you served him from the start, before you even met him. [Sort of odd, jerky shrug.] The Emperor... Forgive me. His apprentices always call him that, or Master. He insists.

[ That hits him like a right in the gut, like a punch to the stomach. A fresh wave of dizziness, and uncertainty, sets in, and he backs away from Luke.]

[The Son's expression doesn't change, his voice stays coolly measured, orange-flecked eyes stay slightly too wide, but he rubs the fingers of his flesh hand against the metal cap at the end of his right arm.]

[He is awful at being a Sith.]

[ The Inquisitor closes his eyes for a moment, reading him. ]

Ahh... do you believe you are the first Jedi to ever fall in love? Shameful that the once-proud Order has become so... restrictive in its future.

[ Jedi in name only, she is. Even he can tell she's just one step shy of full conversion. ]

[ He barely relaxes.] Yes.

[ Suddenly, everything feels like it's about to close in on him.]

[Very quietly:] I have to.

Why do you have to if they were my problems first?

You fought against Darth Sidious. In the end you will kill him. [And there's just a moment where his gaze drops and he half-smiles and seems, briefly, normal. Luke.] Thank you for that, by the way. [And the moment passes, and he is encased in the shell of the Son again.] But he has a way to transfer his mind and essence into other bodies. Clones, mostly. Jedi, too.

I study now to find a way to prevent this.
