I think he has potential to do a lot of good, but his methods ... they're just too extreme. He claims to be some sort of bounty hunter of evil souls, and something tells me it's true, but ... I don't like the idea of anyone having their soul ripped out.

Exactly. I don't think anyone deserves that, no matter how evil or twisted they are. Tearing out their souls and sentencing them to eternal torture, no matter how deserving they are, doesn't make you any any better than them.
My personal recommendations are The Authority, Gen13, and Welcome to Tranquility :D
