Your flights of fancy do not please me, scribe. I need not the delay which you press down at my every moment. Erebor must be taken back and now is the time to do it! Sending me off to yonder lands, I will not hear of it.

Be done with your musings as I am in need of reaching Erebor before Smaug destroys everything. I will not let that filth inhabit my home while you smirk and hinder me. Be gone for now.

Smaug will not destroy the treasure and mountain that you seek.

[What would you know, elf? Your kin watched as Smaug destroyed Erebor and you walked away.]

It is not that which worries me so, elf. The fact that Smaug is lying peaceful amongst a kingdom which he took from us. The treasure and thrown belong to my line.

[Rude, ~~dwarf~~ Thorin. He's not going to go back to acting like that.]

As I told another Thorin in this place, had we marched to Erebor it would still have been lost. Whatever aid my king offered would have been useless against a dragon. And so it does and so you shall see Erebor reclaimed.

It may not have been useless if you had indeed mustered what soldiers you had and....tried. Does not the spirit of battle burn within you as it does with us? [Obviously not.]

I urge you to think upon if you had been in my place and things had been turned around. What then? Would you still have felt abandoned?

Battle leads to deaths and while we do fight when there is need of it, we are not eager to spill blood when a situation threatens to spill more than would be saved. [Nope.]

[He does pause though, expression falling. He's thought about that actually.] Yes, I cannot deny that.

In that time though, friendship between dwarf and elf was unheard of. I would feel betrayed by my time however as I have named one of your kin elf-friend.

[He grunts then sighs. How else to retort back at that?]

Then you see how ill things went for us, master elf. I watched my kin slaughtered by the foul beast. My kingdom in ruins before my eyes and my grandfather beheaded by Azog the Defiler. [He was bitter, so bitter at that.]

That time? You speak of a different time altogether. My kin?

I'm sure I needn't remind you, of all people great King Under the Mountain, that life is not solely the tragedies in which one endures but the strength they take from it and love and help which is given to them by those closest.

[A short nod and a fond smile.] I come from the Fourth Age. And I speak of Gimli, son of Gloin.

[He grunted then gave the elf a bitter look. Elven hogwash.]

Hmph. Many things have come to pass which I live to regret. Yet, taking back Erebor is set in my mind none the less. It is what I live for now. The journey with the wizard, my kin and young Mister Baggins.

Gloin's son? Does he grow up to become a fine dwarf?

And so your company shall. Even in the Fourth Age, your kin still dwell there. I will swear on my honor that you will reclaim it.

He is the finest dwarf, in my opinion. He lives to become Lord of the Glittering Caves.

[This does bring a smile to tug at the dwarf prince's lips.]

The Fourth Age? Durin's beard.....this is hard for me to comprehend but I am thankful for this news, master elf. Forgive me, if I acted out of ill feeling. [The elf called him finest. Can't be that bad then, for an elf.]

Gimli, son of Gloin. Lord of the Glittering Caves. You are his friend, did you say? Elf and Dwarf become allies?

I am glad that I can offer you some comfort in terms of your journey and that you accept it. All is forgiven, of course. [Glad you think so.]

I am, yes. I intend to take him with me across the sea, to the Undying Lands. And we are indeed allies, friends, though it was not at all easily forged.

Aye, may it be so. In my time, elves and dwarves are not so friendly towards each other. [Like, just now, Thorin.]

I only wish your father could have aided us when it was needed most. But, let us not speak anymore ill words, master elf. I still know not of your name.

I recall it. That was nearly two hundred years ago and I am glad that the time has passed.

[Oh. Well, Legolas is a little surprised that Thorin knew his identity but it's all good since they aren't arguing or fighting now.]

I wish he could have as well. Please, forgive my lack of manners. I am Legolas. [He gives a half bow, smile upon his face.]

Legolas? [Wasn't he?....]

King Thranduil's son? Prince Legolas of the Greenwood? [He knew that much.]

That is right. I rarely introduce myself as such though, especially now. [What else can he say to that?]

I see. You bare a resemblance to your father. [He was making an effort to be nice, see, Legolas?]

You give me great compliment. Would that I could say that same of you but, alas, the chance to see you father has passed me by unless these scribes were to bring him forth.

[It's a really good effort.]

[He nodded with a sigh. If only he could have saved his father from madness. Perhaps, there was nothin to be done.]
