[ It's not very often that concern lingers long within Thorin's gaze, at least not around the company of others. But he certainly does wear his concern for all to see as he regards his scribe with a pondering gaze. Typically the two rarely get along. He believes her to be too commanding and impish, and she believes him to be rather...forceful. Yet for this time and this time only, the two may have come to a brief understanding. ]
Fear not, scribe. [ Despite the usual harshness of his tone, Thorin's words are quite gentle. ] We both may not know what fate lies ahead, but we mustn't allow fear to overtake us. Stand strong and be firm, never allow yourself to dawdle in pity. It's quite unbecoming.
[ He sighs deeply. ]
The burden you carry doesn't have to be carried alone. There's many who would easily shoulder your burdens, those who could help uplift you in this time of need. You need to ask and they'll come to you.
[ Just then something his mun mentioned about twelve dwarves and one hobbit caused the King Under the Mountain to chuckle. ]
Aye, I should follow my own advice.

Aye, I should follow my own advice.

I hope that your scribe will heed your words.

I'm quite certain she will given the time. Unlike myself, she's more likely to listen to others without putting up too much of a fight.

We merely tolerate each other, nothing more and nothing less.

If you were merely tolerated, you'd not have an account or plans for a game I would think.

This shall be interesting. ]
...I'm tempted to say you speak from experience.
[ He gives his other self a curious glance. ]
Why so intrigued? It's a realm where war is constant, so says the scribe. [ He sighs. ] I cannot say I look forward to any of this.
no subject
I do. I have come to dwell on thoughts of the past so that I may learn how to challenge the road ahead. Gandalf once said that we need to remember the past and learn from it to forge the new path ahead of us. Perhaps the wizard speaks the truth.
War? We are fighters so I do not shy away from that. Nay, if there are dragons that is a different matter.

Thorin crosses his arms over his chest and almost glares at his other self. He has yet to find a moral standing with the wizard, and has yet to heed the old conjurer's advice. While he certainly hopes he wouldn't be at odds with Gandalf forever, Thorin's in shock to hear such words pass through his -he means Thorin's-No wait...o gracious hell!
This is confusing him. ]
What of it? That old wizard would sooner have me fraternizing with elves if I were to heed his advice. Although, I shall admit he may be right about that.
[ A pause. ]
...It would be the only thing he's been right about since the beginning of this journey!
[ He tenses somewhat obviously ill at ease here. ]
Have you not forgotten the meaning of our plight? I do not shy from battle, yes. However, my people come first. Erebor must be reclaimed and I shan't fight another man's war without accomplishing what I set out to do.
I cannot abandon them and I will not abandon them.
no subject
I would never endanger our people, Tho-
I would never endanger them. Only fools seeks battle when they do not think ahead. I- We shall reclaim Erebor back from those devils and filth which took it from us. [He gave his other self a strong glance.]
Fraternizing with elves is something which I cannot abide either. [Yes, he hated them too, Thorin.]
No one will have to be abadoned if we stick together and plan ahead with our journey. Gandalf has his uses, being the man he is.

Say what you want, traitor! He's all frowns now. ]Good. I had feared that you--or rather I--or you...
[ He sighs and rubs his now aching temples. ]
I had feared that we had lost our cause! We mustn't forget about what we've lost and what we must gain. Smaug will be slain and our people uplifted once more. Thus the reason why we hold this key and our faith.
[ They both very much seem to abhor elves, yet let it be known that Elrond and his family might be the only ones they'll tolerate. Lord Elrond of Rivendell seems nice enough to some regards. ]
I pray for you not to put too much faith into the wizard's skill. We must rely upon ourselves and company to see us through.
[ Another pause. ]
...Do I dare say that we must rely upon the burglar as well?
no subject
[He had fire within his eyes as he laid a hand upon his other self.]
I do not place all my faith within the wizard, just keeping him at distance is enough. Our quest falls heavily on our shoulders and I know it is us who will reap the benefits at the end. Nobody else.
Our burglar? We need him to complete our quest. Unlikely, as it may sound, he is the right hobbit for the task. [So say Gandalf.] Nay, I have my doubts, but perhaps they will be crushed when I see him complete the task ahead.

[ He repeats with some thought. Something about Bilbo certainly charmed the wizard, but what is it about the hobbit that makes him so different than the rest? Thorin plans to unveil this mystery soon enough, but for now he's content to let it be for now. After all he owes Bilbo Baggins his life, doesn't he?
A small smile tugs at his lips. ]
Be sure to keep our quest a secret amongst us dwarves.
[ He glances at his other self with a knowing gaze. ]
There's many who would try to reap our soils. Many who would no sooner slay us to obtain all that lies within Erebor.
no subject
Mister Baggins was chosen by Gandalf so he has to have the valued attributes for the quest. The wizard would not choose him if he could not complete the quest.
A secret it shall be. No one will plunder our gold or steal what is rightly ours. We will keep it in our company and let no one else know what lies beneath the Mountain.

Dwalin, you always had a way with words.
[ Thorin greets the other with a friendly pat on the shoulder. ]
A shield brother you are, my friend. I would have you come with me to this hell, and make the scribes regret sending us there.
Dwalin will follow Thorin to the ends of the world.
[He patted Thorin back on his shoulder. Manly touches were good, ok?]
Aye, I will be your shield if y'need it, Thorin. My axes are always sharpened to slice down any foe we encounter. Be it man or beast.
What hell may it be? Somewhere infested with Orcs or Goblins? [Had the man lost his mind? Nay, his scribe had perhaps.]
Then to the End we go!
Neither orcs or goblins would be found in this hell. T'was told that our foes were beasts of a different kind, one not unlike the Dark Lord that once haunted the land.
Re: Then to the End we go!
Is there good food and plunder to be had in this place?
no subject
...Aye, our shoulders are here for yours as well, uncle.

[ He acknowledges the youth presence with a curt nod. The boy's loyalty is much welcomed, but sometimes Thorin fears that the youth clings to his every word too freely. ]
How brave you are to shoulder such a burden so freely. You make our ancestors proud. When this journey is done, I shall see to it that you are well rewarded in both praise and gold.

I need not gold, but our rightful place under the mountain.

I am no troll, but rather a Khazâd or better known as a "Dwarf" by common tongue.

Dwarf? You are no spirit.

What do "spirits" have to do with my kind? The Dwarves of Erebor were born by the might of Aulë, our Maker. Through his grace we came to be, and through our love for craftsmanship we honor him.
