You're certain that the 'surprise' isn't the fact that you haven't gotten me anything yet?

[ He just exhales, the sound of it bordering on a sigh.

Of course, he's distracted easily enough by the promise of the incumbent gift — some things never change. ] A pleasant surprise, hopefully?
