Voice test- enablers be enablin'

..Finally decided to make a journal for me huh? Took long enough, I have sortof been hanging around in the back of your head for quite some time now.

...And it took the persuasion of a friend to actually make you do it. Feelin' the love, oh yeah.

At least you got around to doing something with me before the world apparently ends. That's supposed to be happening today, right? You know, you don't know what it feels like to have a bunch of dragons burn down your village on a regular basis.

That's worse than any apocolypse, I can tell you that.

I don't know who you are but like I'm going to believe a bunch of dragons randomly decided to get together and burn down your village...

And on a regular basis? [Not buying it Hiccup.]

[And suddenly there's a dragon. Not something he's not used to, but-

A talking one?]

Well you know if you'd let me explain why they did that, then you'd believe me.

... wow, kind of hard to believe your village didn't take the hint after the first few times.

Yeah well- when you're stuck on an island there's not really any place you can relocate to. We just had to pick up the pieces as best we could and be ready when the dragons came back.

But all of that's over with now, so it's not like we have to worry about it anymore.

Don't quote me on this, but I'm pretty sure they make these things called boats, and they float...

[He's going to give Jack a look at that comment.]

I'm pretty sure a viking knows what a boat is.

But vikings are also stubborn. We- especially my dad- weren't just going to up and leave the place that had been our home for centuries just because we were being ransacked by dragons.

Not to mention we all were trained to fight dragons, at the time. We were used to it.

Why were they attacking your village?

Dragons, huh?

[Color him interested.]

They were stealing our sheep, for one. That's all they wanted- but we were dumb enough to fight back against them, so the dragons had no choice but heat things up a little to make us back down.

But we later learned they only did it because they had to. They were stealing sheep to feed this... 'mother dragon' that lived on an island far away- and if they didn't keep that dragon full, it would have turned to eating them instead.

A viking, huh? Somehow I pictured someone... taller.

[ But Jack does understand about not wanting to leave one's home and when it comes right down to it, an island to call ones own isn't that much different from a frozen lake. ]

So why don't you have to worry about it anymore?

Yup, dragons.

[Why, haven't you ever seen a dragon before?]

...Okay that sounds really different to anything I'm used to.

I mean, where I'm from dragons get blamed for all kind of things but the truth is we're just trying to get on with our lives same as everyone else. We'd never steal sheep or burn down villages or anything like that...

I mean we get a few rogue dragons every now and then but the council always sorts them out in the end with a fair trial.

Don't mind me if I sound dumb, but are dragons common where you're from?

[You're awfully chill about this whole dragon thing, dude.]

[He frowns harder. Boy, he just can't catch a break can he?]

...Cause I befriended one of those dragons, one of the most dangerous too. Kinda on accident but- through a series of complicated events too convoluted for me to explain, we were able to make peace with the dragons. Now, instead of fighting them, we ride them.

[He smiles weakly and taps the ground slightly with his prosthetic leg.]

At a bit of a price maybe, but it was worth it.

Common is a bit of an understatement. While most people have mice or mosquitos- ..we have dragons.

Well hey- that's pretty much what our dragons were trying to do too. They never would have even touched our village if they didn't have a good enough reason.

Why are you living in a place that has that many dragons? Isn't that a little... I dunno, suicidal?

So why couldn't you just sit down and talk to the dragons about things before thinking they were out to be a pain hn?

Perhaps- but as far as us vikings are concerned, we were there first.

[Technically, the dragons probably were. But, you know, centuries of vikings battling against dragons has made it a bit of an every-day thing.]

And my dad wasn't about to move our entire clan just because we were being attacked by dragons now and then. We've lived on Berk for- ...well, quite a while.

Well...that was easier said than done. Everybody was terrified of the dragons because of the things they'd done to the village-

But well- I actually ended up befriending one of the dragons. It was sort of a taboo at the time, because just associating yourself with those- as my dad would have said- 'beasts', was just asking for trouble. All of us vikings were raised to fight dragons, but...

I couldn't ever bring myself to do it. Thankfully though, me n' Toothless have turned things around pretty handily.

Are you serious? You're a viking? Didn't you guys all go extinct?

[Or something like that. He didn't much attention in history class, okay?]

Seems pretty crazy to live on an island with a bunch of dragons just out of principle, but hey, I'm not a viking. Maybe it's just a thing with you guys.

Yeah, takes pressure from a few mates do what they want, I'd say.

Uhh- ..no?

[He raises an eyebrow. Vikings were supposed to be extinct? Well that's a new one. He didn't know a certain type of people COULD go extinct.]

It's crazy, but that's just how we are, you're right. The dragons aren't a problem anymore though at least.

Dragons, roarrr!

What's that mean? Did you get rid of them or something?

[He sounds mildly disappointed by the idea. Granted, an island full of dragons is probably dangerous, but he'd sure like the chance to meet one.]
