new muse.

I shouldn't be surprised, nor should anyone - really. You're exhibiting typical behavioural patterns. I must say you do harbor a certain preoccupation with my character.

Do take precaution.

I am quite a subtle man.

[ subtlety doesn't work that way, sherlock ]

You're fine to use the word obsession. Really. Unless it's not subtle enough for you, in which case carry on.

Well, okay. But according to thesaurus.com, you could call her preoccupied until the cows come home and still be saying the exact same thing. And according to dictionary.com, obsession's "an idea or thought that continually preoccupies or intrudes on a person's mind." It's basically the same word written with a blunt pencil.

STEP FORWARD IN TO YOUR CAVE.

oops

[personal profile] ex_elucidation693 2012-12-21 12:53 pm (UTC)(link)
And yet subtlety without context can be construed as stupidity by your peers, yes? Not an uncommon assumption to make if you were one of the masses, unfortunately, but it is as it is.

[personal profile] ex_elucidation693 2012-12-21 01:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Wouldn't you say the assumptions made, in turn, informs about their state of mind? A person's background would color their opinions sufficiently, and one can deduce from that any other particulars worth paying attention to.

Well, to a degree. Not everyone can be exceptional.

[personal profile] ex_elucidation693 2012-12-21 01:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Please.

[ the same could be asked about you, but introspection isn't something you indulge in either, is it? not the sort people demand you try, anyway. don't do what everyone else does, it's a disappointment. ]

The pitfalls of assuming - mm, our word of the day - a certain perspective is the inescapable limitations of it. One can't just fake the view without the immersion.

[personal profile] ex_elucidation693 2012-12-21 02:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[ only that one should ask if your most recent companion is more effective without the sexual affection. it seems to have a 'positive' effect. ]

Lying for the sake of lying is not only inefficient, it's unnecessary. In and of themselves, yes, opinions can be and often are inherently wrong, but the details surrounding the opinions cannot all be absolutely wrong, can they? No, there's always something, at least the one thing that will be based on hard fact. One simply has to navigate through the rest of the nattering and come to the correct conclusion.

And how is your companion doing?

[personal profile] ex_elucidation693 2012-12-21 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[ it's a hypocritical reaction, but sherlock is a mite annoyed — and other things too, but annoyed is easy. There wasn't enough time, at least not for John; Sherlock had done exceptionally well even by his own standards then, on that roof, but unfortunately not everyone is like Sherlock. One of the few who could have been shot himself in the head on that roof, how's that for an encapsulation of his life? ]

Alive is better, Shirley. Even you - especially you - wouldn't refute that.

[ with a clarity that comes from having been forced to deal with people in manners other than logical, sherlock offers his other self a pitying smile. schadenfreude is still gratifying, even if it's toward someone so familiar.

he never did pretend to be a nice person, for someone who's on the side of angels. ]

And without the variables forced into your life by your family you would remain favorable, but that too is semantics, isn't it.

( That large snort coming from Anne should seem impossible to come from such a tiny girl in the funniest white and yellow outfit one has ever seen. )

If I ask you for an example of what you think its subtle I bet it's going to be like breaking into someone's home and wiping your shoes before leaving. Or something.

You know what the problem is with describing yourself? People tend to overestimate themselves. Not that it isn't nice to give yourself a good old pat on the back every once in a while, but most of the time people try to describe themselves, they just end up sounding like some deluded twat who's got a lot to learn about the world.

That's why autobiographies are a shite idea. Hope you never write one, mate. You're off to a bad start already.
