What you and Narvin call "meddling", Torvald, I call trying to do my job.

Yes, well, it's amazing what one can accomplish when one has so many ready and willing allies.

Are you saying I don't? [He has Narvin okay.] I notice you're conspicuously without them at the moment. Where's your bodyguard. I use the term loosely.

[He's also kind of hoping Leela is here and okay.]

My goodness, Torvald, thank you for pointing that out to me; I might never have noticed otherwise. I'm sure Leela will interject when she has something to say to you, not to worry.

...of course you'd lose her. [There's maybe, MAYBE, a hairsbreath of emotion there]

[He frowns] Especially in a place like this. Really this is off any of our jurisdictions and charts.

To say that I would "lose" Leela suggests that I own her in some way, which I emphatically do not. She is her own woman. [And my friend even though I shouldn't have friends and won't admit that I do. :|]

I for one would just as well have nothing to do with this place, but there's someone who insists on distracting me. Believe me, I shouldn't have much to say to you otherwise.

Mm. I suggest you discuss that matter further with Narvin. He has rather more experience of it than I do at this point.

Well, I wasn't around for it, so I can't vouch for the exact series of events, but I'm given to understand that there was quite an event in January of this year. Amongst many other things.

Madame President, with all due respect I knew your policies were incomprehensible [But his expression doesn't match his words, at all.] but when language seems to be beyond you as well...

Narvin has stories, Torvald. And if he chooses to keep them from you ... well, I am not responsible for what information he chooses to share with his subordinates. But do keep in mind how judicious he can be when it comes to keeping people informed.

I'm sure Narvin will tell you more and cast further aspersions on me, but do bear in mind that there is always something he's not telling you.

[She softens just a little. Almost imperceptibly.]

He does always have that in mind. Even if we don't agree on the definition.

Is there a solid definition anymore?

[So okay talking to that Iris lady has made him think and maybe blow his cover.]

It depends, doesn't it? On whether you think we must continue to isolate ourselves, continue to keep our secrets—or whether you think that we must change or die.

Trust. That's what it comes down to. Trust Madam President. And the things that people will do to keep it, and to keep the balance of the universe.

Whatever else you may think of me, I have always been motivated by trying to keep things in balance.
