Peace, maid. I spoke from the heart, in a moment of shock.
Bilbo chose to abandon us to our own quest and our fate, as so many others had. I heard him resolve so, only to see his staunch return. Not hours later he stands fast against my enemy, who had not wielded steel the night before. If my words to him after seemed confused, it was because he proved himself an unpredictable creature. If they seemed in anger, it was at his recklessness on behalf of one who had so derided him.
I was not concussed.

Even still, that does not make your people invulnerable.

[No, Thorin, only when you're actually being a grouchybutt.]
I fell and I bled, Lady. You tell me nothing I do not know.

Good, then the pale one did no permanent damage.
no subject
Not in that battle, not to me.

You do your family great honor by attempting to avenge them and reclaim your lost home. Please, try not to be so reckless as you were in the film when next you see him. It would sadden me.

Twice I have found refuge in recklessness, when prudence offered little hope against him. I cannot promise that I will not try to strike even with such dire chances, simply to spare you grief.
But I will craft myself better chances if I can see a glimmer of a way.

You speak to me of the suffering of my company? My company teetered on the brink of annihilation, and I had been given no reason to hope for aid. If the orcs advanced any further, they would have all been lost.
Should I have despaired? Should I rely entirely upon a wizard to protect my own, and cease to be warrior? I will be reckless, when I have no safety left to be reckless with. I will hope and I will fight, until hope fails me.

You've a sharp tongue when I am trying to be kind and avoid causing insult, King Under the Mountain.
Despair? No, never. Rely on Mithrandir? Again, no. Did you think to ask for aid from your companions that were not holding to Mithrandir's staff?
[A pause.]
You've more strength than I, and I recognize that. I have suffered too and fled Middle Earth as a result. You fought for your own and I respect that. Do not mistake my words again.

You say I am reckless; by the word you mean selfish and thoughtless. How else to describe one who puts his rage before his companions?
However kindly you think you mean it, is an insult nonetheless.
[Oh and he's extra prickly because no one has just one reason for doing things in the heat of battle. Sorry he's taking out his self-doubt on you. 8c ]

Shoo her off and be done with it. You'll save yourself the trouble.

[He appraises his double with a stoic eye.]
A quirk of the place, I take it?

One of the many I believe.

I just didn't think you'd be so short.

Perhaps I'll get the chance. it seems a hazard around these parts.

[He's mostly teasing. Even though it's also true. :| ]

The question I would ask is if you could get along with yourself.
no subject
Perhaps. If we were similar enough to never disagree, it would go easy enough.
But the way of this place is not so exact, is it?
no subject
You'd be surprised. Though this is the only place it can happen. Eventually you will all head out to your own respective places.

[It's not really a question.]

How goes the journey, Thorin?

[Brood, scowl, rinse, repeat.]

Aye, but a bit of rest and a smoke wouldn't hurt.

[ sorry, she's not trying to be cryptic. but it is not in her to be overly giving at the moment. hobbits were sprightly, durable folk but their spirits? like the spirits of any on middle earth, they could take a beating. ]
