see a movie about a hobbit... immediately fling self back at the elves...

More than an Age passes between my tale and the one you have just viewed in part, yet your mind turns to Beleriand, not to Erebor. Are you truly so attached to the Noldor that even the barest mention of Gondolin can rekindle your interest in the First Age? That is more than a little worrying, lady. Those times were kind to few, me and mine least of all.

Beleriand...?

[ Despite him utterly finding distaste with the Elves, there's a hint of curiosity in his gaze. ]

And what of my story could possibly rekindle such an ancient tale as that of yours?

[ Elf or no elf, if Thorin could learn more about the Orcrist and its former masters, then so be it. Gandalf had once told him that these blades hailed from the First Age crafted by the High Elves of yore. At first, Thorin balked at the idea of using an elvish weapon but soon changed his tone eventually.

This is why he looks to Maedhros the Tall with such wonder. ]

You know of these swords? [ His eyes are wide. ] Tell me what sort of fate befell upon these swords from long ago?

Are their masters long gone?

[ The King Under the Mountain sits and listens for a time. As much as he despised the Elves for their betrayal, he could not help but be somewhat fascinated with the ancient Lore of the High Elves. He knew that his blade possessed a deep history, but to hear its feats uttered by someone who lived through the First Age makes him feel somewhat proud that he wields it now.

Thus he listens eagerly to the elf's every word. ]

Such a grand adventures this blade knows, elf. And many more grand adventures shall be had until my fingers turn cold and stiff. I would hope that the Orcrist shall bring me far better luck than your brethren, but I'm not one to foolishly hold to hope so fleetingly.

Even if I do perish, let it be a glorious death with this sword by my side.

[ Of course, Thorin meant no disrespect at least. He's isn't very well learned in the history of elves for good reason. Nevertheless, he doesn't notice the elf's disdain at least. ]

I have nothing more to lose other than the dignity of my ancestors.

[ He replies solemnly. ]

What do you know, elf?!

[ A deep scowl settles upon the Dwarven King's face. ]

You and your elven brethren cling to your trees and nothing else. None of you possess anything worth fighting for not even when a threat such as Smaug comes near your forest dens!

Therefore, try not lecture me!

[ And to think that this conversation between elf and dwarf began to innocently enough. Now Thorin is almost tempted to cleave this elf with both words and sword! ]

All of you are the same as the next, aren't you? Just as haughty as any elf, I say. I see no difference amongst you and others like you.

[ He would've continued in his tirade hadn't Maedhros mentioned this wondrous treasure within his mountain home. ]

...I do believe I know of what you speak, but this treasure now belongs to me.

What I have yet to work out is the particular method by which they enchanted the blades to glow when in close proximity to only orcs. The luminescence is relatively straightforward to achieve, [ it isn't really, but Fëanor's standards of 'easy' and 'hard' and rather different than most ] but to have it work only selectively is not so simple...

[ And then Fëanor trails off, clearly lost in thought, as he paces back and forth. It's not that what his eldest son has to say isn't worrying or curious - it's that it's not as interesting to Fëanor as the construction of the swords, and until he works that out, he's going to be quite distracted...

It seems Maedhros is nice to ramble to, though, since no one else seems to be around at the moment. ]

[ Fëanor is single-minded to a fault, sometimes... what can he say?

However, he's not so absorbed that he misses that sarcasm, and so he shoots Maedhros a look. Except then he starts actually considering the suggestion seriously for a moment before shaking his head dismissively. ]

No. It would be more productive to actually have one of the blades to examine. Perhaps that dagger...

[ An unnamed dagger whose wielder is unknown to him is preferable than swords people he didn't like much wielded. ]

[ If he were less distracted, he would be more annoyed, but as it is he simply frowns and pauses in his pacing for a moment. ]

Sting? Is that it's name? [ And then resumes the pacing. ] I won't require it for long. Simply a closer look at the construction of the metal - maybe take a few shavings to test to determine the alloy. Orcs aren't hard to find these days, so it shouldn't be difficult to determine the range of sensitivity.

[ .... for science! ]

[ A wary glance is all that Maedhros may receive from the former Prince of Doriath. He's...quite hesitant to speak, and for good reason. It's almost as if the shadows of the past refuse to begone with the light of the new age.

This disturbs him greatly. ]
