[ Ender hesitates speaking for a while. What's the point of speaking to someone who won't listen to you? ]

I need to go back- [ where? He doesn't have a place where he can call home. Maybe Valentine, but that was probably as much home as he was going to get.

He pauses for another moment before asking ]

Are you going to use me too?

[ he gives a small shrug. ]

I'm not sure. Maybe I'll be lucky and she'll just leave me alone.

[worthyenough]

She won't if she took you here.

[wiggin]

[ he nods in agreement, although there was still that small hope, just a small one, that he'd be left to do what he needed to do.

Find the new Queen a home, for example. ]

Then the question is what she wants with me.

[worthyenough]

Mundanes are greedy. They like to take things that aren't theirs, because they can. Like taking a trophy from a kill.

[wiggin]

[ Ender frowns a bit. The comparison made him think back of his life. When he was bullied, or when he was manipulated by people higher than him...

But then again, life was the same wasn't it? Still, that didn't mean that he had to like it. ]

What if I don't let her?

[worthyenough]

[Vattu beams up at him.]

A lot of people say you can't. But those people are not fighters. If you escape, you can go home.

[She presses a hand against her chest.]

I'm not going to let mine keep me.

[he nods at Vattu's words, but at the same time he didn't. He wanted to go back to continue his search for the Queen's new home, but it's not like he had much else to do.

And he didn't want to fight. No, he had enough fighting.]

Have those people tried negotiating? If these muns are human, then they must be able to reason.

[ The girl is young and pretty, albeit in a plain way. There are many faces she could have had once but this one — the one that she has finally come to think of as her own — was chosen specifically for him.

Her mouth quirks like she's amused. ]

Have you got somewhere better to be?

[ there's a feeling of familiarity that Ender couldn't pinpoint. He obviously didn't know her.

His expression mimicked her's. ]

I might.

[ he had a doubt about that. He just didn't want to be used by someone else. And this time being so blatantly obvious. ]

[ That feeling of familiarity that Ender felt would be one that stayed with him the rest of his life. Maybe not here in this strange place, removed from the stories of their own lives, but elsewhere.

Jane stares at the shape of Ender's mouth for a moment, then her eyebrows lower from curiosity to something more certain, not warm but vaguely friendly. ]

You do. Next time, try to sound a little more convincing. [ It's not real criticism, just a good-natured sort of dig. ]

[ There's a flash of an amused smile on his face, though it leaves as quickly as it came.

That was right, he had more to do than to be controlled by someone else. ]

I'll grab a megaphone and stand on a chair next time. Maybe then I'll be more convincing.

No, [ she corrects. Always correcting. Even when he is old and she is ageless, Jane will never allow Ender an easy time of it. Why that is, how that is, Jane doesn't rightfully understand. Perhaps it is something inherent, hard-coded into the language of her soul. ] You'll be louder, not more convincing.

[ She considers him and then adds: ] Taller too, I guess.

screeches loudly will i ever be prepared (i bet i won't)

I'll surely grab her attention, though. [ he let's the slightly sarcastic tone die down there, just in case.

He feels somewhat relaxed around her, even though Ender is almost certain that he won't see her again. Maybe that's why.

At the mention of his height he does look down at his feet and at Jane. ]

I still have time to grow.
