[Fields was another one he failed, who deserved better than being a stand in. His mouth twitches at that before pressing into a thin line.]

[There are lots of those. Could count the successes on one hand] mm. That one...saying it could have gone better is an understatement.

Was she - he? - a desk worker?

Yes. And interestingly enough [or not, depending on who you are] she was a Woman in my world too. That was one of my more unusual encounters. [it's the first time she's talked about it with anyone. She's turned just a little red now]

[Well that's. Curious. He arches an eyebrow, briefly, and might take a second or two to imagine that.

It's not a bad second or two.]

[she gives an exaggerated eye roll] Oh well do take your time then. Get it all out of your system why don't you. [she doesn't seem all that angry about it however]

If you insist. [He doesn't, though; James has always been more the sort to do than to fantasize. And in any case, they are both gone; it doesn't do to dwell.]

Wasn't too bad. Just...I wasn't even trying you know? Not even a little bit. At least he made me work for it a bit. Got under my skin. And that's why I can't honestly say he was boring.

I know. [But she was beautiful, and had let him take her to the party despite being a desk agent. It leaves him a little more jaded than he'd like to admit.]

I'm sure he wasn't. I'd only be bored as him.

[She was that. And the way she tripped up that person on the stairs was well appreciated]

mm. Good thing you're you then isn't it? [with the unspoken implication that she's glad he's not dead]
