Prepping an app for [community profile] lastvoyages

I must admit, at first I was rather put off by all this talk of 'redemption', but then I thought it over more thoroughly and find myself rather pleased.

There's something so very Cardassian about being sentenced before the trial.

All Cardassians are traitors and without honour.

Why are you here?

How fascinating. [He was rolling his eyes now, Garak.]

I have duties to perform if you will allow me to leave.

I met a Cardassian once. Spoke in allegory for two hours over a missed transport, and I still think it was for his amusement more than communication.

Was I? Wonderful! I feel less bad about not liking the blue liquor he wanted me to try. Saw some people get sick off that once. Terrible thing. Sure it had to be an accidental addition of something poisonous at the bottling plant. Then again, they did say they stole from someone. Good cautionary tale about theft. Wouldn't have wanted to experience it myself. Never know when there could be another accident at... where ever one makes that blue drink.

Redemption! That has to be quite the thing. At least it's a trip you're looking forward to.

'Redemption' is something of a tricky subject. Are you looking at it as the literal saving of the soul by making up for past misdeeds or evolving beyond what you are now?

While I'm not there and don't know the area, either could be challenging. There are also some people who don't need or want to be redeemed. Eye of the beholder and all that.

[A small nod, the start of a smile.] Yes, exactly. Shifting ground to say the least. Then those who can't change. Too many depend on them to stay as they are.

That is very true the lack of universal agreement. Take, err, some world out there. It's more what the single person can do for their government, their people, their world. Another planet like, say Earth, is more what can be done by the government, people or world for the single person. You'll never get full agreement. Have to find your own path in the dark without a torch, I suppose.

That it does. Societies have been arguing that since the beginning of Time. Better to light a match than curse the darkness unless the darkness is more comfortable. But doesn't that kill the whole idea of redemption?

[Pause. Beat.]

Are you? Doesn't seem the right moment for it. Shouldn't we get more philosophical before something like that? More of a build-up to some great inner revelation is warranted, I should think.

Brilliant! I feel the same. So we can continue on without emotion intruding and keep it a purely philosophical discussion.

I do hope you find what you're looking for. Has to be better there than where I am.

You have no idea how much my mun enjoyed seeing your face. She has a certain level of weakness for Cardassian tailors former Obsidian Order spies thanks to a pleasant experience what seems a long, long time ago.

She says that's true and she'd buy you a proper bottle of kanar if it means anything. Also, A Stitch In Time was an excellent novel. In fact, she's going on about Cardassian culture over here and it's annoying as shit.
