I must admit, at first I was rather put off by all this talk of 'redemption', but then I thought it over more thoroughly and find myself rather pleased.
There's something so very Cardassian about being sentenced before the trial.

Or, rather, I would reach enlightenment and you could go forth to spread my good word among the remaining heathens of our quadrant.

I have duties to perform if you will allow me to leave.

Redemption! That has to be quite the thing. At least it's a trip you're looking forward to.

While I'm not there and don't know the area, either could be challenging. There are also some people who don't need or want to be redeemed. Eye of the beholder and all that.

For good or ill, there is a stunning lack of agreement on a universal code of ethics and values.

That is very true the lack of universal agreement. Take, err, some world out there. It's more what the single person can do for their government, their people, their world. Another planet like, say Earth, is more what can be done by the government, people or world for the single person. You'll never get full agreement. Have to find your own path in the dark without a torch, I suppose.

While finding a torch would be convenient, I can't say that it would be for the best.
[A pause.]
I suspect this is where I'm meant to make an offhand remark about 'groping for truth in the dark'.

[Pause. Beat.]
Are you? Doesn't seem the right moment for it. Shouldn't we get more philosophical before something like that? More of a build-up to some great inner revelation is warranted, I should think.

I do hope you find what you're looking for. Has to be better there than where I am.

Also, A Stitch In Time was an excellent novel. In fact, she's going on about Cardassian culture over here and it's annoying as shit.
