Dearest Lady Mundane,

I feel very flattered by your attention to someone like myself. Canon was a long time ago and was obscure even then, and I was never the main character. To be the focus of a journal of my own is a wonderful surprise. I'm not sure where you would send someone like me, but there's so many games here I'm sure we'll find a place. It seems hard not to. Don't worry about a thing.

I'm very grateful you let me keep my pet with me, even if he might have to stay home when I go to a game. And although we won't find cast mates I trust in your ability to understand my character. You've been a fan of the book for such a long time. I have full confidence this will go well.

Keep your head up. And see if there's a place where I can play piano. It's my biggest of weaknesses. You know me.

Well, I suppose I'd like some flowers, too. Maybe a notebook to write down my dreams in... and some spicy rock candy might be nice. But I'm happy having my snake with me and a piano to play. The rest I suppose I'll acquire later. It'll work out.

Yes. He was going to be killed for not being able to produce venom, and being the wrong color. Can you believe that? And he's such a gentle creature, too... Eddie's never bitten anyone in his life. He really isn't as bad as people think he is.

And it's comforting, to have a pet who actively listens to my music. He can be quite charming.

I dunno. I've kinda...gone off snake. Bad high school experience. You know how those go.

I understand. Still, I hope you can agree killing a creature just for not having one feature is disgusting. It's like how pet stores put down albino guinea pigs and other things of that nature; just because they're different, they assume no one wants them. And that's just not true.

You have a point. And I see it. Eddie...was it? Eddie's lucky to have you.

I don't expect everyone to embrace snakes. But killing off any animal just because it looks different is sick. And the way they do it is rarely humane. One store was caught drowning excess animal stock.

I knew about how odd colored animals can get that kind of fate if they don't sell. I never meant to end up with a snake. It just happened.

I've...never really had a pet. Well -- a goldfish. Once. But he didn't make it.

That's sad. Perhaps you should think about another pet. They can be very comforting.

Oh, I dunno about that. I'm afraid that 'nurturing' isn't really one of my strengths.

You could surprise yourself. Maybe try a low maintenance pet?

Some cultures believe rocks have meanings. Having one might be a good experience for you.

Well. I've known a Kennedy but not a Kennedia. How would you even shorten that? Kenny? Dia? Ken? [ a huff. ]

Ugh, not Ken. I hate that. Reminds of those awful boy dolls they sell to go along with Barbie. My friends go with Kenni most of the time, but my parents prefer Dia.

Is Buffy short for something, or is it just Buffy?

Just...Buffy. [ though 'buffy' in itself used to be a pet-name for elizabeths. but nah -- she revels, at times, in her just buffy status. ]

But I can dig the Ken-hate. I wouldn't wanna be compared to a plastic doll, either. Boy or girl.

Just Buffy. I like it. It's unique.

I'm not a fan of dolls because of this, as petty as it sounds. Middle school kids thought it was witty. It got old fast.

It was easier to just ask why they knew so much about dolls, put on my best innocent face and ask if they still played with theirs. Worked especially well with boys; everybody dropped it by high school.

Hah. By high school? Most people just kinda called me...weird. Of course -- they were right. So there wasn't much to argue with, there.
