[Q takes a moment to stare, letting the moment stretch before speaking his voice slightly slow as if speaking to a child.]

You're clearly just sour because you can't control whatever Magoi you gave.

Don't worry; high level magicians such as myself are rare.

Inclining his wrist, he lazily channels a small amount of magoi into his wand and ejects a small jet of water from it. The liquid shoots past the other's shoulder and splashes gently on the wall behind. ]

If you wanted a demonstration, you could have just asked.

What, as opposed what the research she'd have to do for you? Wouldn't that just be trying to get a venereal disease?

[That earns Bond a faint, cold smile, a bare twitching of Q's lips.]

[A sharp expression flashes across Q's face, a sudden fury, though it's almost immediately tempered by shame, a faint blush tinging his pale cheeks. His voice comes out stiff and even colder than normal.]

That was my mistake, and I've learned from it. And I told you not the lose the damn thing. They're not free you know.

[lastrat]

[Bond tracked both expressions carefully, watchful as always. He didn't apologize for the sting: there was no way to make certain you learned from something if you forgot it. But he doesn't dig deeper, either; he made his mistakes with Silva, too.]

Be glad I didn't have time to bring the giant lizard that ate it to you.

[The tension eases slightly from Q, and he snorts softly.]

I like machine learning and engineer, not biology. So I thank you for that, 007.

And here I thought it would help you and your handler relate. [Yeah he's smirking a bit.]

Like I said, that's what she thinks. Biological research is nothing more than one messy black box after another. Programming is clean, completely designed by us, so every command is perfectly executed and every ramification is know. Of course every mistake then, is from our own design. It's wonderfully existential.

Sometimes things have to get a little messy, Q. There's existentialism to be found in that, too.

[Q lets out a soft snort.]

Are you trying to hurt my feelings, 007? [His voice takes on a soft, almost teasing lilt.]

[Dryly:] Wouldn't dream of it.

[pugilisticrubiks]

[Just as dryly.] I'm sure that you always have my feelings in mind.

[Q rolls his eyes.]

I'm sure you wouldn't.
