It shouldn't surprise you, dear, that I believe in second chances for everyone.  Perhaps they can learn.  Or perhaps I can get a second chance to take more of the bastards with me.  What's the worst they can do?  Torture and kill me again?

Perhaps. I have never, it seems, been very good at self-preservation, and that is good advice. But to paraphrase Eleanor Roosevelt, I have spent many years of my life in opposition, and I rather like the role.

So sad and sorry a world it is, when we need be so cynical. I can only hope in generations to come we might once again be able to expect the best from one another rather than the worst. If I've done my job as an educator well, perhaps some of my former students will be the ones to take up that torch.

On the whole, I think humanity is brilliant. It's the pettiness of scared individuals that drag us down into the muck.

Isn't it, indeed. They fear change and what they don't understand, and instead of trying to understand and accept they lash out, break things, try and make it go away, not realizing that it's futile. The nature of the universe is change, after all.
